Our mission is to increase accessibility to wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Join us in our mission to Accelerate Accessibility.

Bridge to Mobility is the national non-profit organization dedicated solely to increasing accessibility to wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV). We have mobilized the WAV industry, including leaders, manufacturers, dealers, suppliers, and employees, in this mission to promote and support the mobility access needs of persons with disabilities for adaptive vehicles and related equipment. As a collaborative, industry-wide initiative, we have an opportunity to make an incredible impact and directly change the lives of so many individuals with a disability in the United States—bridging the gap to mobility and allowing them to fully enjoy their lives with freedom.

We take much pride and joy in helping individuals/families acquire a wheelchair accessible vehicle. The following is a thank you note we recently received - it is extremely rewarding to hear from those who have received Bridge to Mobility awards, as the notes reinforce our will and mission.

"We want to sincerely thank you for your incredibly generous $5,000 award toward the installation of the wheelchair lift for our van. Your generosity has made a tremendous difference in our lives, and we are so grateful for your support.
My husband has ALS, but thankfully he is still very mobile in his wheelchair. Before receiving your award, we were using a portable ramp to get his wheelchair in and out of our van. While it allowed us to get where we needed to go, it was difficult, physically demanding, and honestly, sometimes a little scary. I was always worried about him getting hurt, and loading and unloading that portable ramp was a struggle for me.

Thanks to Bridge to Mobility, we now have a wheelchair lift that gives us a much safer and easier way to travel. We can enjoy the things we love doing together without constantly worrying about whether my husband will be safe getting in and out of the van or whether I will be able to manage that darn portable ramp!
We also want to give a very special thank you to Guy and the entire team at Future Mobility. They were more than accommodating to us throughout the entire process. They kept us informed about the progress of the installation, answered our questions, and made sure everything was done right. They are just an all-around great group of people to work with, and we truly cannot say enough good things about them.

This award has given us more than a wheelchair lift. It has given us freedom, independence, peace of mind, and the ability to keep making memories together. That means more to us than we can put into words.

So, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU, Bridge to Mobility and Future Mobility! Without you all, we would still be struggling with that darn portable ramp!"

Today is World Cerebral Palsy Day. Cerebral palsy is the most common lifelong physical disability, yet it remains one of the most underfunded and overlooked disability and global health issues. World CP Day exists to change that.

Approximately 40-50% of those with cerebral palsy use a wheelchair. Many people living with cerebral palsy face barriers from lack of access to healthcare and education to social exclusion and employment discrimination.

Today is Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day. It is an annual collaborative effort to globally raise awareness of individuals living with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD). LGMD is a general term used to describe a group of genetically inherited neuro-muscular diseases. Under the umbrella of LGMD there are more than 30 identified sub-types. Individuals with LGMD experience progressive weakness and wasting of the muscles closest to their body (proximal) such as the shoulders, upper arms, pelvic area and thighs. Presently, there is no cure for this rare progressive and degenerative disease.

Issues of importance to the LGMD community are genetic screening and identification of sub-type, support services to individuals and families coping with complex medical needs, the promotion of innovative medical research and product development, and insurance practices that assure patient access to medically necessary therapies.

Through our awards, we've helped people with LGMD buy a wheelchair accessible vehicle, giving them more independence and freedom.

Meet Amber and her daughter. Amber's daughter has cerebral palsy. This wheelchair accessible vehicle will accommodate her new power chair while allowing them to feel less restricted based on transportation issues. We are so happy to have been able to provide an award to Amber and her family.

September is National Service Dog Month, a time to honor the life-changing work service dogs do for individuals with disabilities, and how deeply they are loved. Service dogs are dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities, providing them with increased independence and confidence.

Some reminders about best practices when around a service dog:
- Be sure to speak to the handler, not the dog.
- Never touch a service dog without asking permission first.
- Keep your dog away from service dogs.
- Never offer food to a service dog.
- An unattended service dog is a sign it's owner needs help.

World Duchenne Awareness Day is a global day aimed to raise awareness for those affected by Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy. True progress is measured not only by scientific breakthroughs, but also by ensuring that every person living with Duchenne or Becker muscular dystrophy has the opportunity to access the care, support, and opportunities they need to live a full and meaningful life.

Today is World Spinal Cord Injury Day. SCI Day is a renewed call to advance prevention, collaboration, and action across the global spinal cord injury community.
This year marks a significant milestone: the tenth anniversary of SCI Day.

Meet Mohammad and his daughter, Afya. Afya is a 13-year old wheelchair user. Mohammad has been carrying Afya in and out of their vehicle, but as they both get older, that becomes increasingly difficult. This wheelchair accessible vehicle with ensure that Afya gets to her appointments, school, and family outings safely. The first places she'd like to go are restaurants and the movies!

Meet Jim and his wife, Linda. Jim is a double amputee due to complications from diabetes. While their sons have been transferring Jim into one of their cars for medical appointments and rehabilitation sessions, they wanted a WAV to make the process safer for everyone, as well as give them the freedom to enjoy family outings together. Happy to have worked with on this award and hope the family has been able to enjoy their new found freedom as well security and stability with their new wheelchair accessible vehicle!
