Bridge to Mobility

Bridge to Mobility Our mission is to increase accessibility to wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Join us in our mission to Accelerate Accessibility.

Bridge to Mobility is the national non-profit organization dedicated solely to increasing accessibility to wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV). We have mobilized the WAV industry, including leaders, manufacturers, dealers, suppliers, and employees, in this mission to promote and support the mobility access needs of persons with disabilities for adaptive vehicles and related equipment. As a collab

orative, industry-wide initiative, we have an opportunity to make an incredible impact and directly change the lives of so many individuals with a disability in the United States—bridging the gap to mobility and allowing them to fully enjoy their lives with freedom.

Airbus just completed the first test flight of its Airspace U Suite, a new cabin concept that lets wheelchair users stay in their own mobility device throughout the entire flight. Airbus reached out to one of our mission-aligned partners, AMF Bruns, to help bring this concept to life. A specialized restraint system anchors the wheelchair directly to the cabin floor, removing the need for transfers and helping prevent damage. US airlines damage or destroy approximately 10,000 mobility devices each year, and this design aims to change that. We're happy to have AMF Bruns as a mission-aligned partner and are excited about the future!

Meet Norma.
Norma has suffered two strokes and her right leg has been amputated. She struggled to get to important doctor appointments because of unreliable transportation. The Bridge to Mobility award helped to secure a safe vehicle, providing her stability and independence so she can manage her medical care and daily life. She can't wait to go visit family using her new vehicle - we're excited for you, Norma!

Meet Kathy.
Kathy has a connective tissue disorder and relies on her wheelchair more and more. She was in need of a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) since the one she had required more work than it was worth. With financial assistance from the county and Bridge to Mobility, Kathy now has a reliable WAV and is able to attend appointments, take her grandchildren places, and engage in the community.

We deeply value our partnership with Help Hope Live and appreciate the work they do!

We are almost there! As we just about get to the hour countdown, we have one more Hope Travels 5K sponsor we'd like you to meet! Introducing Bridge to Mobility—a national non-profit organization dedicated to increasing accessibility to wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV) for those unable to afford a private vehicle.

For many people who use a wheelchair, mobility ends in the home. More than 96 percent of wheelchair users do not have access to a private WAV. Bridge to Mobility is dedicated to changing that statistic by providing greater access to WAVs.

To all our friends at Bridge to Mobility, thank you not only for the work you do to drive the momentum of our mission, but also for your unwavering commitment to expanding accessibility, independence, and opportunity for all.

Meet Tom. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He had multiple surgeries and treatments, but paralysis occurred due to an infection that traveled to his spine. He and his wife need a wheelchair accessible vehicle so he can attend doctors' appointments and continue receiving outside care. We were so excited about working with Tom and his family and the team at United Access in Kansas City - Tom is excited about taking their son to the lake!

Meet Edwin.
He's an Army veteran and has been in a wheelchair for over 15 years. He wanted to be able to enjoy the community and visit family, as well as join his wife on a trip to the grocery store. With his new wheels, Edwin plans to head to Tampa to see the National Veterans Golden Age Game and to the VA to workout in the mornings!
He was able to get a grant through the VA, but still needed a little extra help, which is where we came in. We worked with the team at MobilityWorks Savannah to make this happen. We love when there is collaboration between organizations!

First established in 2012 by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA), the purpose is to promote, educate, and raise awareness regarding accessible transportation and equipment for those with mobility challenges. We are happy to work with NMEDA and excited to increase the number of people with wheelchair accessible vehicles, thereby increasing their independence and accessibility to medical appointments, education, employment and community.

Meet Eja. She's the daughter of retired U.S. Navy veteran, Vincent.
They needed a new wheelchair accessible vehicle because they had been in a car accident. With this purchase, they will again be able to attend appointments, church and daily activities. Happy to have worked with MobilityWorks Tacoma to get this deal done!
