Recently, we had the privilege of helping another young mother (age 38) who is facing an incredibly difficult journey. She is a North Olmsted graduate who personally knew Erin and her sisters, and currently resides in North Canton, Ohio. She is a devoted wife and mother to two daughters, ages 15 and 4.
For years, she followed the foundation, never imagining that one day she would find herself in need of its help.
About two months ago, she discovered a lump in her breast. At first, she didn’t think much of it, but she eventually mentioned it to her doctor. That decision led to a mammogram, which revealed five masses and an abnormal lymph node. Biopsies of two of the masses and the lymph node confirmed the news no one ever wants to hear: she had Stage 3A breast cancer.
Last week, doctors placed a port in preparation for treatment. This Wednesday, she will undergo a CT scan to determine whether the cancer has spread beyond what is already known. For now, the plan is six months of chemotherapy followed by surgery, though the results of the scan may affect the course of treatment.
Like so many families facing a cancer diagnosis, they were in the middle of building their future together. The couple recently purchased a home, making this unexpected challenge even more overwhelming. While both she and her husband are currently working, there is uncertainty about whether she will be able to continue as treatment progresses.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide support that will help ease some of the financial stress and allow this family to focus on what matters most—her health and her recovery.
