119 years of scouting! ⚜️🎂🥳

It's our birthday, Scouts! 🎉 🥳 ✨

119 years since the very first experimental Scout camp pitched up on Brownsea Island, Dorset.

We’re so proud of everything our volunteers have done since then to give young people a place to belong. Thank you to you all! 🙌

Wishing our two participants and two of our adult volunteers an amazing time at The 40th Scottish International Patrol Jamborette, taking place in Blair Atholl from tomorrow (Monday 20th July) until Friday 31st July 2026.

Around 500 Scottish Explorer Scouts will camp alongside Scouts from around the world including Austria, Barbados, Canada, Finland, Germany, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and USA.

During the event, our two participants will enjoy an exciting programme of activities and the opportunity to form lasting international friendships. 👏👏👍

We also wish SJ and Chong a great time on the adult volunteers team. SJ is helping with her old sub camp, Morrison, and Chong will be assisting on the event’s infamous mud run, The Atholl Experience.

The fun doesn’t just apply to those attending!

The camp is open to visitors on Saturday 25th July from 1pm.

The country fair will open at 2pm where you’ll find stalls providing tasty treats representing the various countries attending the camp, games to play, and entertainment provided by our Scottish and Overseas Scouts.

This time last week!! 🏕️🔥🎤🎶

A brilliant campfire at Templars led jointly by Westhill’s Pink Panther Explorers and Steve P, Group Lead Volunteer at the 46th Aberdeen Scout Group.

A great time was had by all!

The party continued in the marquee afterwards with some dancing just as supper was being served.

As part of we are highlighting one of our dedicated volunteers.

Chong works as an Engineer in the oil industry by day, but volunteers at Cubs and Scouts each week. He tells us why, here.

Why I Volunteer
I have been volunteering with 1st Westhill Scout Group since 2017. I started with one of the Beaver Colonies and gradually moved on to support the Cubs and Scouts sections as my three children progressed through the group.

I have been inspired by the many dedicated Scout leaders who share a belief in helping young people develop valuable skills for life through Scouting.

One of the greatest rewards has been the opportunity to spend meaningful time with my children, sharing experiences, creating memories, and growing together through their Scouting journey.

What I Enjoy
I enjoy being part of the local community, building friendships, and working alongside an experienced team of leaders who are always supportive and willing to share their knowledge and guidance.

I particularly enjoy camping and helping to run activity bases at Scout camps.

This summer, I will be taking on a staff role at the 40th Blair Atholl International Jamborette.

Looking ahead to July 2027, I will join the International Service Team with the UK Contingent at the World Scout Jamboree in Poland. It promises to be an exciting adventure and a valuable learning experience for me, just as it will be for the young Scouts taking part.

I hope you will consider joining us at the 1st Westhill Scout Group and becoming part of our Scouting community.

Our Thanks to Chong and all of our adult volunteers who help give local young people .

We need more help! From behind the scenes help to helping with sections. Interested?
