Moriches Bay Project Founded in 2013, the Moriches Bay Project™
is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization
dedicated to aquatic species restoration in Moriches Bay.

As a mission to improve overall water quality in Moriches Bay, and increase its environmental productivity, the Moriches Bay Project™ is dedicated to reestablishing populations of shellfish and eelgrass to this fragile marine environment. Through stewardship, partnership, and community awareness, the Moriches Bay Project™
aims to make long-term improvements to the bay and empower the community wit

h knowledge to counteract local environmental problems. The Moriches Bay Project™ was created by the West Hampton Dunes Barrier Beach Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization, and by First Coastal Corporation, a coastal environmental consulting firm based out of Westhampton Beach. This is a page for supporters of the Moriches Bay Project™. We encourage open discussion while keeping the messages and comments appropriate. Molgula manhattensis — aka the Sea Grape! 🍇🌊

This humble little tunicate filters plankton from the water and can be found hanging out on docks, rocks, and,

inconveniently, amongst our oysters! Basically, it’s a tiny ocean vacuum cleaner… that looks suspiciously like a squishy grape. 😂

As cute as they are, sea grapes can be a real nuisance in aquaculture systems, where dense populations can compete with oysters for food

and restrict water flow through gear. Tiny? Yes. Harmless? Not exactly.

MBP had a beautiful Sunday breakfast on Moriches Bay with friends and supporters of the Moriches Bay Project.
