Westgate Fire and Rescue proudly serves Westgate and surrounding areas with a team of dedicated, trained volunteers. Organized in 1905 after the completion of the water works and donations to acquire a "hose cart," Westgate Fire Department has been an integral part of the community ever since.

Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower!
This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is again about safe charging. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, an estimated 5,000 lithium-ion battery fire and overheating incidents occur each year.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) notes that reporting is often fragmented, though. Their multi-source analysis estimates that since 2011, roughly 198,000 structure fires and 5,700 electric vehicle fires nationwide have involved lithium-ion batteries—averaging out to significantly higher totals when accounting for unreported or under-identified minor events.
Be safe using lithium-ion batteries. Spread the word that everyday actions can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires. Make smart choices every time you plug in.
