True peace and protection come from the Lord Jesus Christ. I was using my smartphone to get a Lyft the other day when we were visiting Niagara Falls in Canada, and I had an epiphany. By 1992, %20 of the population had computers in their homes. I was born in '94, and I'm 31 now, so let's say the internet has been slowly growing in our lives for 50 years.
By the early 2000’s, 50% of the population had computers, and one of the first things people did with that technology was become online predators. (I promise I have a point to this.) The police, government, and even the FBI warned people not to make their entire lives public, don't have your location for everyone to see, only accept friend requests from people you know and don't meet with someone you only talked to online without proper protection like having people with with you or meeting in a well lit area, and definitely don't get into a strangers car. (I mean that last one people have been saying since the car was invented.) So as my mom and I stood on a side street, in the dark, waiting at a pre-designated location, a strange man who I had contacted via the internet picked us up, and we not only willingly got into his vehicle, but we also paid him to let us in and take us to another pre-designated location.
WHAT WENT WRONG? Seriously, I did everything I was not supposed to do, and if I told someone, I'd say it like, " Oh yeah, it was getting pretty late, so we just called a Lyft, and they took us home. And the other person would have told me that was really smart.
So I guess what im working on in my brain right now is how we got from never, ever, do that. That is completely safe and normal, and the answer is desensitization.
Our world is advancing in technology so fast, and we are just zooming along without even wondering if it's safe. We need to be wise, and God says, "Fear not," but he also told us to be wise and cunning. I'd love to hear some other people's thoughts on this matter.
