Our friends at Garden State Initiative (GSI) conducted a joint poll with Fairleigh Dickinson University which found over 44% of New Jerseyans are looking to move out-of-state due to property taxes & high costs of living:

“We have a crisis of confidence in the ability of our leaders to address property taxes and the cost of living whether at the start of their career, in prime earning years, or repositioning for retirement, New Jersey residents see greener pastures in other states,” Regina Egea, GSI President

According to a recent survey conducted for the Garden State Initiative (GSI) and Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Public & Global Affairs, 44% of New Jersey residents are planning to leave the state in the not so distant future with more than 1 in 4 (28%) planning to depart the Gar

Should Trenton be mandated to pay for education through Income Taxes?

Former Legislators discuss the notion and how shifting educational costs back towards the State’s coffers could not only reduce overall property tax burdens, but decrease district funding discrepancies.

The average New Jersey tax bill is $8,767. About 52.6% of that, or $4,610, is the taxes the local school district levies on homeowners and property owners, according to data from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

Being informed, especially as election day nears, is very important and this year is no different.

For instance, when voting this November there is only one statewide ballot question. The referendum deals with offering our Veterans living in senior/assisted living communities the same opportunity to receive the $250 property tax deduction homeowners are allotted.

Measure would benefit aging veterans who now lose $250 property-tax deduction when they move to a retirement community

The Dunellen, NJ School District (Middlesex) will hold a ballot question in December which will seek resident approval for a $23.8 million bond.

The outline of the referendum proposes to use the funds to repair/rehabilitate existing school structures, expand classrooms, & increase available technologies.

The Dunellen BOE has stated that, if approved, the bond would not increase property taxes above the yearly allotted 2%.

The board of education is planning a $23.8 million bond referendum in December to cope with a growing school population.

"The states in the bottom 10 tend to have a number of afflictions in common: complex, nonneutral taxes with comparatively high rates. New Jersey, for example, is hampered by some of the highest property tax burdens in the country, has the second highest-rate corporate income tax...".
