THE CRUISE IS CANCELLED?! Yes, due to the extremely low water levels, we will need to cancel the cruise. In two pre-floats this week, we identified multiple areas where boaters might run aground or need to scrape their boats through, and that just isn't fun.

Minimally, 600 cfs (cubic feet per second) is recommended for an optimal float, requiring a river level of about 4.5' or so. Today, we are at just 200 cfs, and the River level is just over 3'.

We hope to look for a later "rain date" when levels are high enough to reschedule.

Thank you for your interest in the WRWA, and we hope to see you soon.

A popular question the WRWA gets: Why do we start on the south side of the Green Bridges? Take a look at the ledges here before and in the middle of the Bridges. We have the perfect spot to start a block down from the River Walk Lot!

CANCELLED DUE TO VERY LOW RIVER LEVELS

June 13th- Westfield River Cruise. Details below!

Registration 9:00 -9:30 AM in the public River Lot parking area off of Meadow Street near the Great River Bridge in Westfield. (Shorter registration window due to Little River Rd. delays.)

Paddle Cost: $20 non-member, $15 member to participate. This covers event insurance and bus transportation costs.

Drop Off on Hancock Street (map below): Unload boats and gear. Kayaks, Canoes, and Paddleboards are welcome. Please ask about any other types of floatation devices. **ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR PFDs PER OUR INSURANCE POLICY*

Drive to Robinson State Park (DCR charges $5 Ma. and $20 out-of-state plates. We have been unable to get these fees waived). Return by shuttle to the launch area. We hope to depart between 10-10:15 from the Park. *Do not dawdle.* People have missed the bus doing "one last thing" on their way to the Park.

Staggered Cruise departures will begin around 10:30 a.m. with a safety briefing before we launch. We have a limited number of volunteer leaders (must be a WRWA member), so that determines the overall groupings once we have everyone registered. We appreciate your patience if you are asked to wait to join a staggered group.

Please RSVP to ensure we know you are coming, so that you can get a notice if we need to cancel: [email protected].

Meet up with the WRWA on Monday 5/18 at 5:30 for our annual social and review. (Pizza too!) Wilson Hall, WSU (Please DM for more location info).

We would love to have your feedback on creating a wider variety of activities and public outreach, no science background or paddling experience needed. We are a non-political group whose focus is to increase awareness of the Westfield River- especially south of Russell, where the Wild and Scenic designation ends.

All welcome~
