We’d like to share our newest recipient, Alicia Colter & Family. We are hoping to gift this beautiful family a handicap accessible van.
Alicia’s husband, Michael was in a terrible motorcycle accident which resulted in three brain hemorrhages, a skull fracture, and other broken bones. He was in ICU unconscious for 10 days and, upon awakening, he suffered severe traumatic brain injuries. Tragically, Michael ended his own life just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2024, leaving Alicia a single mom of 4 daughters. Mikaela- 9 yrs, Ariana- 4 yrs, and one year old twins, Parker & Paisley.
Ariana, the 4 year old, was diagnosed with Vanishing White Matter Disease in December 2022 and also has Epilepsy. Ariana has no head control and currently rides in a carseat in their family vehicle. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to get Ariana in and out of their vehicle and there is also fear of pulling out her feeding tube or dropping her which could result in a dramatic progression of her disease. Ariana will soon have a new adaptive stroller that will need to be strapped into the vehicle instead of using a carseat. This will be more comfortable for Ariana and safer for Alicia to move her in and out of the vehicle. Having an accessible vehicle would allow safer transportation for Ariana to her many doctors appointments and family activities, while using her adaptive stroller, and will also meet her future needs as she grows.
The cost of the van is approximately $80,000 However, if we exceed the projected costs, St. Nicholas may even be able to provide something special for the Colter girls for Christmas!
