More Than Bootstraps

More Than Bootstraps has received a $3,000 grant from the Westfield Service League to support its college access and success work in Plainfield, New Jersey. All of this funding will go directly to students in the form of stipends to allow them time and space away from their other financial obligations in order to mentor their younger high school peers.

“As we continue to integrate More Than Bootstraps into the Plainfield community, we are enormously grateful for the recognition of our program’s contribution to increasing access to and success in higher education for first-generation college students,” said Audrey Fisch, president of More Than Bootstraps. “Westfield Service League members work diligently as volunteers in the Westfield Thrift and Consignment Shop in order to make these community contributions. We are honored to have been chosen for this grant that will allow us to support the students we serve in Plainfield.”

Join us in celebrating Ashley, an outstanding young woman who has been part of MTB since the beginning of her junior year of high school. 🎓

For two years, Ashley was an MTB High School Fellow, receiving mentorship and support from older college peers. As a member of the first cohort of Passaic High School Fellows, she then became the very first fellow to transition into the role of College Student Leader, mentoring younger high school students for three years. This past year, she helped run the program as a Program Resource Fellow, guiding both high school and college students with care, consistency, and commitment.

Ashley is now graduating summa cm laude from William Paterson University with a double major in criminology and Latin American Studies and a minor in psychology. She is beginning her professional career at IACO, where she previously interned as a Governor’s Hispanic Fellow. 🌟

We are incredibly proud of all Ashley has accomplished and excited to see the impact she will continue to make as a leader in her community.
