If you've been on a Warhawk team or in an organization, you know that it enhances a student's time at WCHS 🖤 Our Senior Bowlers celebrated senior night earlier this month! Wes bowled a 290 that evening, which is 1 pin shy of a perfect game 👏

This past Saturday was a slam dunk for the WCHS boys basketball team 🏀 The team entered the Central District Division I Basketball Tournament as the 13th seed and three wins later are District Champions. Whether it's an alum or current student, Warhawks are made to make a difference 🖤 WCHS students, led by science teacher Stephanie Martin, traveled to various elementary schools in the district to bring the Ohio Energy Project to them. The high school students led the elementary students through various learning activities and labs to increase their knowledge of energy. Mrs. Martin reported that the high school students did a phenomenal job representing our Warhawk family and teaching the activities. Way to go!

ALUMNI HIGHLIGHT 🖤 It's always special when an alum connects with current Warhawks. We recently had the pleasure of JaVaughn Graves (WCHS Class of 2009) stopping in to speak in Mr. Mahoney's English 1. The theme was centered around the use of words in storytelling and writing, and how this can transfer into a career.

JaVaughn, now known professionally as Von Graves, played basketball here at Central. He went on to Ohio University and graduated with a degree in English. JaVaughn is now the owner of a music management company called USIC The Brand. USIC The Brand is a music management & consulting, production, marketing, and entertainment company dedicated to inspiring and empowering independent artists domestically & internationally through innovative products & services. He's developed apps to highlight and empower independent artists and musicians, and released his own album in February (you can find it on Spotify, iTunes YouTube and other streaming services).

We love watching Warhawk alumni soar! 🦅

The Warhawks in AP Environmental Science are soaring with sustainability! One of their ongoing tasks is weekly recycling collection of classroom paper and cans. The students have collected over 6,200 pounds this year of recyclable goods saving them from the landfill and allowing these resources to be reused. The class has also partnered with Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio - SWACO to get a $3,500 grant and to be a pilot school for the School Recycling Champion Program. With the grant we have been able to add permanent classroom bins and will add bins to more of our common areas and athletic fields. Great job to the AP Environmental Science team and Mr. Forrest!

Warhawks are made to fly and we're thankful to alum who can help them soar 🖤 Warhawk football player Justus Roper was selected as the FIRST winner of the $5,000 “Jordan Family Scholarship” this year. The award will be given out each year to a senior Westerville Central football player. As a result of his academic success, contributions of the field, community service and high moral character, Roper was chosen for this award. The scholarship is funded by 2006 Westerville Central graduate Ron Jordan – and a long line of his siblings and cousins – who are all WCHS alums. Read and view more here: http://bit.ly/31hGvIy
