From the Join Hands for Josh Fundraiser

Hey Everyone!

I just hung up the phone with Nancy Misiewicz, Josh’s mom. She was calling from Walter Reed Military Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, where Josh is currently receiving medical treatment. She had heard about the Join Hands for Josh Basketball Fundraiser held in honor of her son the day after Thanksgiving. It was an inspiring conversation.

During our interaction, Nancy shared how demanding and taxing the comeback trail has been and will continue to be for Josh. The good news is…he is making progress. His hospital stay will be lengthy and every minute of everyday will be consumed with medical treatments, counseling sessions, strength training, physical therapy, etc. Despite this uphill battle, Josh doesn’t have an ounce of quit in him. In the true spirit of the Marines, Nancy persisted, “He’ll adapt and overcome!”

As our call was wrapping up, I gave her the “well wishes and thanks” many of you asked me to pass along. Nancy expressed her gratitude by saying, “As you can imagine, no father or mother would ever want to see their child harmed and watch them suffer,” Nancy confided. “To have this happen to Josh is much more difficult than words can express.” With her voice cracking, she went on, “But to have people back home, especially people who haven’t even met us, supporting us in so many different ways is humbling and overwhelming. Such unconditional support has provided a priceless source of strength for our family. We’re so grateful.”

I wanted to share Nancy’s conversation as it really belongs to all of you. On behalf of the Misiewicz family, I would like to thank you for all your efforts and donations in making The Join Hands for Josh Basketball Fundraiser a great show of support for Josh. As a result of your generosity and over 200 kids participating in the Fundraiser, we raised over $9,000 …and still counting!!! BTW...every penny of your donation has gone directly into The Josh Misiewicz Fund.

My hat’s off to you all!

More than 200 up-and-coming basketball players from La Grange and Western Springs sharpened their skills and raised $8,300 to benefit recovery efforts of a 23-year-old Marine from LaGrange Park severely injured in Afghanistan. Hey Everyone,

Injured while Serving
Many of you have already heard about Josh Misiewicz, a LaGrange resident. Upon graduating from Lyons Township in 2006, Josh enlisted in the Marines. Just recently, while serving in Afghanistan, Josh stepped on an IED, losing both his legs. As a result, Josh's future will be a plagued with physical and financial challenges.

Making a Difference
We can play some small role in making his journey a little easier, as least financially.

Your Influence
I’m not looking for a donation, but your influence.

On the day after Thanksgiving, Julie and I will be conducting a basketball camp for grade school kids at LaGrange Park District. I’ve attached a flyer with all the information on the event. The suggested donation to participate is $25. Please note, 100% of all donations collected will go directly to The Josh Misiewicz Fund. DribbleTown has committed to absorb any ancillary costs such as gym rental, supplies, insurance, etc.

What you can do!
Please forward this information to any teams or families who have grade school kids. You can post it on your page or mention to someone who coaches a youth team. You might even a mention in a conversation. The kids will participate in age-appropriate basketball workouts. They'll have a phenomenal workout and, believe me; they'll sleep well that night!

I appreciate your efforts in helping give Josh an "assist"!

Thanks,
Julie and Joe Niego
