Va**ng is often marketed as a safer alternative to smoking—but "safer" doesn't mean safe.

A recent review of research found that ni****ne-based e-cigarettes may be linked to biological changes associated with cancer, including DNA damage and chronic inflammation. While researchers continue to study the long-term effects, experts agree that va**ng is not risk-free, especially for young people whose brains and bodies are still developing.

As youth va**ng remains a concern, it's important for parents, educators, and trusted adults to have ongoing conversations about ni****ne addiction, marketing tactics, and the health risks associated with va**ng.

🚨 New Trend Alert: Caffeine Pouches 🚨

They’re small, discreet, flavored, and gaining popularity among teens and young adults. Caffeine pouches are marketed as a convenient alternative to coffee and energy drinks—but experts are raising concerns about their appeal to youth. Some pouches contain 50–200 mg of caffeine each, making it easy to consume more caffeine than is recommended for teens in a single use.

Why are experts concerned?
⚠️ They're easy to hide and use anywhere
⚠️ High caffeine intake can contribute to anxiety, sleep problems, increased heart rate, and dependence
⚠️ The packaging and delivery method may look similar to ni****ne pouches, potentially normalizing pouch use among young people

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that teens limit caffeine intake, with many experts advising no more than 100 mg per day for ages 12–17. Yet some caffeine products can exceed that amount in a single serving.

💬 Have you heard of caffeine pouches? Would you recognize one if your child had it?

After our programs, students complete post-activities that help us see how they’re applying what they learned — and sometimes their responses give us a good laugh too 😂

After our Human Reproduction & Embryology program, one student shared this gem.

Honestly… they’re not wrong 😅

🚨 A new study found that more than half a million teens in the U.S. reported using inhalants like nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) in the past year. Experts say social media trends and easy access are helping fuel the rise.

What many teens don’t realize: inhalants can cause serious harm — including brain and nerve damage, heart problems, loss of consciousness, and even sudden death.

Parents, caregivers, and educators: conversations matter. Talking openly about what teens are seeing online and explaining the real risks can make a difference. 💬
