The Vincenzo Nigro Memorial Soccer Tournament Allow me to introduce you to Vincenzo Nigro. Vincenzo was the grandfather who was at every game cheering on his grandchildren and their friends.

Vincenzo lived most of his life in Westerly, where he worked for the Moore Company for over 35 years, fathered two girls and became the proud grandfather of five. Tragically, Vincenzo was killed at the age of 68 by a drunk driver in a car accident on Memorial Day of 2011 at 6pm. His grandchildren are all Westerly Youth Soccer players playing in the recreational and competitive leagues for the last

8 years. Watching his grandchildren play was his life’s joy. The Westerly Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) and the Nigro family have teamed up to have the first of what we hope will become an annual event, celebrating Vincenzo’s life and raising awareness of the dangers of drunk driving and the importance of good decision making. We hope this education will prevent future senseless tragedies of this kind that took Vincenzo’s life prematurely. The Vincenzo Nigro Memorial Soccer Tournament will be the first soccer tournament in Westerly, and stands to be a wonderful family event. It will be held on June 29th 2013 (rain date, June 30th) at the Gingerella Sports Complex.

Dear Facebook friends,

Today, on the 5th Anniversary.. We remember our father/grandfather, Vincenzo Nigro, who was killed by a drunk driver on Memorial Day, May 30th, 2011. His life was taken from us by a man that chose to drive drunk at 6 pm on a beautiful Monday evening.

We did not lose our Dad to an illness or by accident.. His death was unnecessary, He died tragically by someone who was acting irresponsibly. Our lives are forever changed, we continue to be heartbroken and miss him everyday. But, we are committed to raising awareness for this cause, in hopes that no other family will ever feel the pain we have endured.

Although our Tournament will not be held this year... We will continue to remember our Father and honor his memory by raising awareness about the devastating affects of Drinking and Driving. We are so thankful to our past supporters and are proud to be awarding the Vincenzo Nigro Memorial Scholarship next week. We are actively looking for a partner that shares our mission and hope to see you all on the soccer field again to support this very important cause.

Please drink responsibly and keep our roads safe.

Thank you to the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation for speaking to the Westerly Middle School grade 8 today ❤️. The main reasons our foundation was created is to support others in the amazing work on educating our youth on the dangers of drunk driving.

Why our tournament means so much written about 2 weeks before our tournament by my 9 year old who was 5 1/2 at the time my dad pasted away.
