Luna Rae is a 3-year-old Bully mix who has experienced more change in her short life than any dog should have to. We know of at least four different homes, and unfortunately, she did not receive the socialization and stability she needed along the way.

Luna is a loving, loyal girl who does wonderfully with the people she knows and trusts. However, new people and unfamiliar situations can be overwhelming for her. When a stranger gets too close to her or someone she is bonded to, her fear and anxiety can cause her to lunge as a way of communicating that she is uncomfortable.

Luna has been in a foster home since returning to the shelter at the beginning of June. She has not had a single appointment set up since then. She is a happy dog, running everywhere she goes with her tail always wagging. She stays close by, following her people from room-to-room, and laying on their lap when they are on the couch.

Luna's energy level is overwhelming for their cat who has been hiding in the basement since she arrived. It is not sustainable for them and we need to find Luna her forever family soon. We are looking for an experienced dog owner who can give Luna the patience and discipline she needs to overcome her fears and master more advanced commands, such as "leave it."

Luna is currently living with middle school aged kids and another dog. Although she is too much for her foster family's cat, she has lived successfully with other cats. She is crate trained.

In 2025, Sunny was found as a tiny, malnourished and terrified cat who may have been abandoned when her owners moved. By then, she had become nearly feral.

The new homeowner worked tirelessly, day by day, to earn Sunny's trust and get her safely inside before winter. When Sunny was finally trapped and brought indoors, she marked the walls, threw herself at the windows and desperately tried to escape.

But her finder never gave up. They patiently worked for months to build a bond with Sunny, inching a little closer each day.

Then, after everything, Sunny finally decided to trust again.

Now, she is her owner's shadow. 🥹

Unfortunately, Sunny soon began showing signs of illness and progressively became worse. After four vet visits, she was diagnosed with severe hyperthyroidism.

And when we say severe, we mean it. Normal thyroid levels are approximately 1–4, while hyperthyroid cats often fall in the 7–14 range. Sunny's level was 40. Her veterinarian, with more than 20 years of experience, said he had never seen levels this high.

There is a potential cure: I-131 radioactive iodine therapy, a single-injection treatment with a 95%–98% success rate.

The initial estimate was $1800-$2200, and an incredibly generous anonymous donor offered to cover the remaining $1,250 Sunny's owner needed to reach that goal.

However, because Sunny's levels were so unusually high, most veterinarians weren't sure she was a good candidate and declined treatment.

For months, her owner has worked tirelessly to bring her levels down with methimazole. While still high, Sunny is now in a safer range for I-131. But because of the complexity of her case, the new estimate is $4,053.84–$5,082.80.

Sunny's owner is desperately trying to raise the difference so her care can continue.
