Much as I appreciate the strong thunder storm that just passed over, I am more grateful for the fine weather we had yesterday for Planting Day '26 and for the many wonderful volunteers who helped to make it happen successfully. Give yourselves a big hand, and thank you.

For a chuckle, here is a photo my sister nabbed yesterday of a turkey admiring his reflection in her patio door. Behind him on the left is the tail of a stone peacock she just had refurbished to decorate her rock garden. Yep, he was attracted to the peacock, but getting the cold shoulder, he took the door prize. And nope, she doesn't live in rural Westcliffe. She lives in a suburb or Portland, ME.

May is a busy month of collaboration and comraderie as we replace barrels and "flood and fill" planters throughout the month, and finally sort flowers and plant 40 barrels and 5 planters on the 21st. Our volunteers will work industriously and genuinely happily to get the big job done. If you see us on the streets of town, a tip of the hat would be much appreciated. We'll all admire our handiwork together, weather permitting as always.

Our next program presented by Claudia Morris will cover keeping our forest trees healthy and beautiful for now and future generations. Time and place in the previous message. Please join us.

Please note that we are making a temporary move for this meeting to Rancher’s Roost – Cliff Lanes Conference Room 25 Main St, due to a space conflict at St. Luke's. All are welcome.

A week ago Thursday, we had a good turnout for an excellent presentation by Galen Murray, Landscape and Wildfire Mitigation Specialist. The mitigation information could not have been more timely given our current restrictions, but his landscaping ideas were very interesting too. Here are a few photos of the event. Thanks very much to Galen.
