Love to see it!

Chicago Women in Trades (CWIT)

For Careers in Construction Month, we're profiling CWIT graduates at different stages of their careers.

Kia Shorts came to our Women in Welding program on a friend's referral. The combination of classroom learning and hands-on work moved her career forward, and she earned all six welding certifications the program offers.

Since August, Kia has been an apprentice with Iron Workers Local #63, where she's building on that foundation with on-the-job training and union resources. She'll complete her apprenticeship in four years.

Her advice for anyone considering welding: "Do it. Try it. I think everyone should try as much as they can. Welding is so cool!"

Stay tuned for more spotlights on CWIT graduates.
