Today is 65 Roses Day (6/5) 🌹 The “65 Roses” story dates back to 1965 when an observant 4-year-old, hearing the name of his disease for the first time, pronounced cystic fibrosis as “65 Roses.” Today, “65 Roses” is a term often used by young children with cystic fibrosis to pronounce the name of their disease. Although, 65 roses sounds pretty and is easier to say, it certainly doesn’t make living with this ugly disease any easier 💜

𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝐂𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂 𝐅𝐈𝐁𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐒?

CF is a genetic disease. To have CF, you must inherit two copies of the CFTR gene that contain mutations - one copy from each parent. That means that each parent must either have CF or be a carrier of a CFTR gene mutation.
When two people who are carriers have a child, there is a 25 percent chance of having a child with CF.
When one parent has CF and one parent is a carrier, there is a 50 percent chance of having a child with CF.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that CF affects only the lungs.... Yes, CF is predominantly “lung disease” but did you know that CF affects the WHOLE body, almost every system and organ can have complications due to CF! Every case is unique from patient to patient. CF is you fighting against your whole body.

Over 40,000 Americans and more than 100,000 people worldwide suffer from CF, with approximately 1,000 new cases in the US diagnosed a year. These patients fight to breathe every day and face many other battles that come along with the disease. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs, sinuses, digestive system, reproductive system and many more parts of the body. Although we have come very far with breakthroughs, new treatments and increased life expectancy, there is still NO cure and we continue to lose precious lives to this horrible disease. This is why we continue to fight vigorously for all who fight this battle daily.

Get educated and help support CF awareness. Let’s hold onto hope and one day together, make CF stand for CURE FOUND 💜

Absolutely amazing and BIG news for the CF community and those littles fighting this very large battle! We keep fighting, we keep hoping and will do so until the days cure if found and CF is a thing of the past 💜 As always, we thank you all for your ongoing support and happy to share how it has been paying off

The FDA has expanded approval for Trikafta (ages 2+) and Alyftrek (ages 6+) to treat people with CF who have any CFTR gene mutation that produces a CFTR protein. This means about 800 more people in the U.S. will be eligible to take these CFTR modulator therapies.
