Light Up the City of Westbrook and Let the Community Vote for Your Holiday Spirit!

The Westbrook Community Center is excited to announce our first Citywide Holiday Lights Contest.

We invite households throughout Westbrook to transform their homes into dazzling displays of holiday spirit and help make our city shine bright this season.

From December 4 through December 27, community members can vote for their favorite holiday light displays. Every vote helps celebrate the creativity, festive spirit, and neighborhood pride that make Westbrook such a special place. The registered participant receiving the most votes will be crowned this year's Holiday Lights Contest winner!

Our top three displays will receive the following prizes:

1st Place: Ultimate Party Prize Pack—Celebrate your win with a prize package that includes:
• $250 gift card to Rio Bravo - Westbrook
• Your choice of either: 1-hour private pool rental at the Davan Indoor Pool for up to 20 people, or a 1-hour bounce house rental in the Treehouse Room for up to 20 people

2nd Place: Fuel & Fill Up—Fill your tank with gas and tummies with pizza:
• $100 gasoline gift certificate from Duck Pond Variety - Westbrook
• $50 gift certificate to Profenno's Pizzeria & Pub

3rd Place: Dinner & Movie—Treat yourself to a classic night out featuring:
• Four movie tickets to Apple Cinemas Westbrook
• $50 gift certificate to Blazes Burgers

Winners will be announced on Monday, December 28.

How to Enter:

• Your home must be located in Westbrook.
• Complete the online registration form using the link below.
• There is no cost to participate.
• Registration is required to be eligible for voting and prizes.
• Registration closes December 3 at 4:00 PM.

Contest Guidelines — Please keep the following in mind:

• Your street address will be shared publicly on the Holiday Lights Map.
• Participant names will not be published.
• Decorations must be clearly visible from the road.

The Holiday Lights Map will feature all registered contest entries, making it easy for families and friends to plan a festive evening drive and enjoy holiday displays throughout Westbrook.

The Westbrook City Band’s fall concert is coming up this Tuesday, October 13, at 7pm, here in the Westbrook Community Center Gymnasium.

They'll be playing music from Grease, Les Misérables, and Pirates of the Caribbean, plus a few more masterpieces you'll probably recognize.

FREE admission, all ages, and no tickets needed—just show up and enjoy!

And, if you're interested in our Redwood Society, a 50+ program presented by ConvenientMD, please make sure to stop by our Redwood & Spruce Rooms (across from each other in Hallway A) for a complimentary, pre-concert bite to eat beginning at 6pm — courtesy of Profenno's Pizzeria & Pub, and learn all about the great trips and FREE activities we offer for older adults.

Redwood Society programs are generally FREE of charge, unless we’re busing off-site for an experience that requires admission, a meal purchase, or additional spending money.

In-house days – generally Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 1-3pm – feature FREE activities such as Team Trivia Challenge, Cribbage Club, Bingo Blitz, and other wonderful, community-based programs. Adventure days – typically on Thursdays and Fridays – include a variety of trips to restaurants, museums, themed attractions, historic sites, shopping outlets, and much more!

Whether you join us to participate in one of our FREE in-house activities or go on a thrilling road-trip experience, it’s sure to be lots of fun and a great opportunity to socialize and meet new people!

These older adult-focused initiatives, which are low-stress, calming, and help lower blood pressure, are designed to keep hearts forever young and days filled with smiles. They can also enhance memory formation and help exercise cognitive skills.

Membership to the Redwood Society is NOT required. Please feel free to drop in for any of our in-house activities, which always feature FREE coffee, water, and snacks. However, pre-registration is required for all off-site experiences due to capacity limits. Our brand-new bus holds 28 passengers, but seats do go fast!

We traveled to Meredith, NH, on Friday for our annual visit to the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad and the ever-popular Turkey Train, presented by Hart's Turkey Farm Restaurant!

The Turkey Train — officially known as the Turkey Dinner Train on the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad / Winnipesaukee Railway — is a popular two-hour seasonal excursion that departs from Meredith Station.

The train travels south along the western shore of Lake Winnipesaukee, passing through Weirs Beach and alongside Paugus Bay toward Lakeport before returning to Meredith.

Each ticket includes a traditional, homestyle Thanksgiving-style dinner catered on board. Menu highlights include freshly carved roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls and butter, warm apple crisp and a non-alcoholic bottled drink.

These events run during the late summer and fall foliage season, typically on Fridays and Saturdays or select dates through September and October.

The Westbrook Community Center’s next scheduled road trip adventure is this coming Friday, October 16, when we bus to the Fryeburg area for a tour of the White Mountain Regional Airport — the prettiest in the northeast, followed by lunch at The Back Burner Restaurant. ‘The Breakfast Club’, where we experience some of the best local breakfast spots in and around Greater Westbrook, visited Miss Portland Diner in Portland on Thursday.

The Miss Portland Diner is a historic, landmark American diner. It is Worcester Lunch Car Company diner No. 818, built in Massachusetts in 1949. It features a classic barrel-vaulted ceiling, marble counter, wood booths, tiled flooring, and chrome accents.

It originally opened in 1949 at 175 Forest Avenue, was moved to 49 Marginal Way in 1964, and was eventually saved, restored, and reopened at its current address in October 2008.

The diner made a cameo appearance in Mel Gibson's 1993 film The Man Without a Face.

The menu includes classic American comfort food, all-day breakfast (eggs benedict, omelets, pancakes, French toast, corned beef hash), burgers, sandwiches, and specialty milkshakes.

Open daily, Monday-Sunday, typically from 7am-2:30pm.

Wednesday’s ‘Outdoor Explorers’ — an adventure program for Westbrook Middle School students — visited the Heath Preserve Trail in S**o.
