Westbrook Community Garden

Westbrook Community Garden Get your family and friends involved in a fun and healthy hobby! Rent a raised bed in the Community Garden. NOW OPEN FOR THE 2022 SEASON!

Grow some vegetables for yourself, or donate your harvest to organizations in need. Current renters have until Monday, November 15, 2021, to re-new their current garden plots only by calling 207.854.0676, option 2, and speaking with Tom during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4pm. After that, beginning on Tuesday, November 16, all remaining beds will be opened to the general public.

==========

On May 14, 2011, with the assistance of grant funding and labor provided by staff of The Home Depot, United Way volunteers, City leaders, and many helping hands from the community, the Westbrook Community Garden came to life behind and alongside the Westbrook Community Center at 426 Bridge Street! The 86-bed Garden, an organic and cooperative effort, is now entering its 12th summer of operation and continues to be a fun and healthy hobby for aficionados, families, friends, and many more. Whether you grow fruits, vegetables, or flowers for yourself … which is a great way to save money, or donate your harvest to organizations in need – such as The Westbrook Community Food & Resource Center, the Westbrook Community Garden is a wonderful way to be outdoors, get exercise, relieve stress, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment. And it’s a great way to get kids of all ages involved and teach them life lessons. Beds, just $25 each/year, are either 5’x10’ or 4’x12’, depending on location, and fresh water, compost, and gardening tools are available on site. If interested, and to rent your bed(s) online using a credit card, please see the bed listings below, or contact Tom at [email protected] or 207.854.0676, option 2. All gardeners must abide by the set guidelines. After 10+ years of operation, we do understand that some of the beds are becoming weathered. We are currently looking for grants to fund improvements. With any luck, this will happen in 2022, but may not be until the fall. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call Tom at 207.854-0676, option 2, or e-mail [email protected]. Join the Westbrook Community Center on our upcoming trip to the Maine Maritime Museum on Tuesday, September 3!

We still have a few spots left for our trip to the Maine Maritime Museum this coming Tuesday, September 3.

Register now under the 'Special Events' tab in the catalog found online at www.WestbrookCommunityCenter.org, call 207.854.0676, or stop by our Reception & Information Center in the Central Hallway.

Founded in 1962, Maine Maritime Museum sits on a beautiful 20-acre campus on the banks of the Kennebec River in “The City of Ships,” Bath, Maine. The museum connects people to the past, present, and future of Maine’s waterways and their global reach. Indoors, enjoy air-conditioned galleries with exhibits and hands-on activities for all ages. Into the Lantern: A Lighthouse Experience is a one-of-a-kind immersive exhibit that will give you the sensation of standing at the top of a lighthouse.

Outdoors, stroll through the country’s only surviving shipyard to see where large wooden sailing vessels were once built. Many of the original buildings in our shipyard are preserved, giving you a glimpse into the daily lives of the Percy & Small shipbuilders. The highlight of the yard is the full-size sculpture of the schooner Wyoming, the largest wooden sailing vessel ever built in North America. The Victorian-era home of the Donnells, one of Bath’s many shipbuilding families, is located at the top of the yard.

Our 25-passenger bus leaves at 9am and returns by 3pm. Lunch, which is NOT included in your $5 pre-registration fee for transportation and admission, will be at the museum's Sail Shed Cafe.
