June 1, Injured Workers Day - Day of Action

Justice for Jiangtao Liu (Ada), Francisco Vidal Reyes Cortina, and Humberto Macisa Zavaleta.

Please contact WSIB at 416-344-1000 or email [email protected] to demand justice for injured workers.

Jiangtao is fighting for fair compensation from WSIB as a migrant worker who has suffered workplace harassment, unfair treatment, and physical assaults. This abuse has left Ada with depression and PTSD. Instead of providing fair compensation, WSIB denied her claim.

Francisco’s WSIB benefits have been cut (a.k.a. “deemed”) even though he is still undergoing a second surgery due to his work injury, is unable to return to work, and currently has no income. He is also experiencing a serious mental health condition.

Humberto lost his leg in a preventable workplace accident and is struggling to access adequate healthcare through WSIB, as he is currently in Mexico with no income support.

Open Letter to Ontario Premier Ford, Minister Piccini, Minister Khanjin, and WSIB President Lang,

Regarding Injured Workers Day: Fair Compensation for all Injured Workers

Monday, June 1 is Injured Workers Day, marking the 44th anniversary of the injured workers’ movement, which began in 1983. It is also the second year that Ontario has officially recognized it.

Injured Workers Action for Justice (IWA4J), Industrial Accident Victims’ Group of Ontario (IAVGO), and Justice for Migrant Workers (J4MW) are collectively writing this letter to demand fair compensation for all workers. No worker should be left out without support and protection!

Here is the full letter: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13buypn8hk9hZGNBiuaFflnq8CZYKjsE4/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=101757277769433917101&rtpof=true&sd=true

On June 1, we will remember, honour, and mourn the workers who were killed on the job, and we will continue to fight for justice in solidarity with injured workers, their families, friends, allies, and supporters. As workers and members of grassroots communities, we stand united for dignity and fairness. We urge you to take immediate action during this critical time.

An injustice to one is an injustice for all!
In Solidarity!
