☀️Summer brings more time outdoors, but also a higher risk of preventable injuries and heat-related illness. A few simple habits can help keep you safer all season long.

✔ Stay hydrated throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty.
✔ Take breaks in shaded or cool areas when temperatures rise.
✔ Avoid prolonged exposure during peak heat.
✔ Be mindful around water, whether you’re swimming, boating, or supervising others; conditions can change quickly.
✔ Don’t overlook the basics: sunscreen, bug protection, and a well-stocked first-aid kit can go a long way toward preventing small issues from becoming bigger problems.

A little preparation helps you enjoy summer with fewer risks and more confidence. Visit SJA.ca to be summer prepared!

🚨 St. John Ambulance Ontario is ready for the switch to CSA Standards; are you?

Effective next week, June 22, 2026, Ontario will transition to the new CSA (Canadian Standards Association) Standard for First Aid Training. As a result, under this new legislation, the 1-day renewal course for Standard First Aid will no longer be offered. However, participants with a valid Standard First Aid certificate up for renewal will now be able to renew their certification to the Intermediate First Aid course beginning June 22, 2026.

This means:
✔ Updated, standards-aligned course content
✔ Certifications that are recognized across Canada
✔ Continued focus on hands-on, practical skills
✔ Flexible delivery options (including blended learning for Intermediate First Aid)
✔ Experienced, highly qualified instructors

*Note: that this change to CSA standards only impacts first aid training. It does not impact the regulations around first aid products such as first aid kits, AEDs, and supplies. Since 2021, St. John Ambulance Ontario has been selling first aid kits designed to comply with CSA Z1220-17 standard.

Fiction: One blood donation doesn’t really make much of a difference. 🤔 🩸

Fact: Every single donation can save up to three lives. Blood is needed every day for surgeries, cancer treatment, trauma care, childbirth, and serious medical conditions. One hour of your time can help multiple patients in your own community, and the need is constant, not just during disasters.

On , St. John Ambulance Ontario encourages all eligible Canadians to give blood regularly as a simple but powerful way to support healthier, safer communities. Roll up your sleeve and give the gift of life. Visit www.blood.ca to learn more.

In an emergency, you don’t need to be a professional responder to make a meaningful difference. ⛑

Good bystander action is about staying calm, thinking clearly, and acting within your comfort and scope while help is on the way. Some quick steps you can take are:

✔ Start with scene safety. Make sure the area is safe for you and others before approaching.

✔ Call EMS as soon as possible and provide clear, accurate information so responders can get to you quickly.

✔ Focus on simple, supportive actions until help arrives.

Staying present, reassuring the person, and following dispatcher instructions can all help improve outcomes. Knowing what appropriate bystander action looks like helps turn hesitation into an informed response.
