Mentorship is a key part of Loran's program, providing scholars with real-world connections and more. When we select mentors, we don't just look for impressive titles; we look for leaders in their workplace and community who can impart guidance and advice rooted in integrity. It's a relationship based on growth and reciprocity.
Here's what Anissa Hilborn, who has volunteered as a Loran mentor since 2024, has to say about her experience: "Mentoring allows you to step outside your day-to-day routine and see the world through a fresh perspective. It challenges you to be a better listener, a more thoughtful advisor, and a more intentional leader. And honestly, it’s just fun. These scholars bring so much energy and curiosity to every conversation. More than anything, you walk away feeling like you’re part of something bigger. When you mentor with Loran, you’re contributing to a ripple effect of change that touches communities far and wide. And that feels incredible. If you're thinking about volunteering for Loran, my advice would be simple: Do it."
