It is with profound sadness that we share the news that CMHF Member Chester Ferguson Millar has passed away at the age of 98. Inducted into the CMHF in 2008, Millar’s illustrious career made him one of the mining industry’s most prominent company builders.
Millar began his career in drilling and blasting before becoming a pioneer in heap leach gold mining. In the mid-1960s, he discovered the copper-gold deposit alongside his son Michael that was developed into the highly successful Afton Mine near Kamloops, British Columbia. He subsequently founded and led several junior mining companies, including Alamos Gold and Glamis Gold.
Millar’s incredible career and contributions to our industry will forever be remembered and honoured by the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame. Our thoughts are with his family.
