Link Therapeutic Recreation Programs Providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities to achieve an independent and healthy life.

Leisure Services has been the primary source of recreation and leisure programming in the greater Des Moines area for people with disabilities since 1954. Link is the only provider of comprehensive, year round, community-based adult leisure programs and services are based on the philosophy that constructive use of leisure time promotes healthy human development. Experiences are strengthened by our

use of community resources and our promotion of integrated activities. The program employs Certified Recreation Therapists to design, implement, and supervise program options for participants as well as part time recreation aids, and a corps of volunteers to assist participants in programs/activities.

Please help us in saying Good Luck and Thank You to Ben!

As Ben’s time at Link comes to a close, we want to take a moment to thank him for everything he has done for the TR Program! Ben’s hard work, passion, and dedication for those we serve has made a lasting impact, and we are so grateful to have had him as part of our team.

Ben’s last day with us will be Saturday, May 30th. While we will miss seeing him around, we are excited for what’s ahead as he continues his internship this summer and heads to Iowa State this fall!

Thank you for all your hard work, Ben — we wish you nothing but success in this next chapter, and we hope to see you volunteering with us in the future!

Summer Games 2026 is officially in the books! 🎉

What an incredible couple of days at Special Olympics Summer Games!

Our bocce and soccer teams competed on Thursday, and our track & field athletes gave it their all on Friday and Saturday. We are so proud of the hard work, determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship shown by every athlete!

Thank you to our coaches, families, and supporters who cheered everyone on along the way. Congratulations to all of our athletes for representing us so well! ❤️

Join us from 5:30–6:15 PM at Dowling Catholic High School to support our Special Olympics swimmers as they wrap up the season!

Come cheer them on during a fun and friendly competition with Dowling students. Your support means so much to these athletes, and we’d love to see a great crowd there!

With the start of a new month comes the launch of our Summer Brochure — and we couldn’t be more excited for everything ahead! ☀️

To help make this summer even more special, we’ve put together an Amazon wishlist filled with items that will enhance our activities and experiences. Every donation, big or small, goes directly toward expanding what we can offer and making each activity even more engaging and memorable.

Huge congratulations to our Special Olympics Track & Field athletes for competing at districts last week! 🏅 We have 31 athletes advancing to the Summer Games in May!

We’re a little late to posting, but the celebration is just as big! 🎉

Huge congratulations to our 13 Special Olympics swimmers who competed at the area swim competition on April 1st at the Waukee Family YMCA! 🏊‍♂️💙

Our athletes gave it their all in every race, showing great sportsmanship and supporting one another every step of the way. You represented our program in the best way possible!

Way to go, swimmers—we are so proud of you! 👏🎉
