Nine Square Feet

Nine Square Feet is a 501(c)3 community organization in central Iowa. We support backyard food producers by sharing seeds, transplants and resources.

Since our first community event in 2016, we have distributed more than 100,000 seed packets and plants.

Meet one of our Gardener's Celebration of Fall vendors: Plant Grow Fly ! 🦋

Plant.Grow.Fly. is Blank Park Zoo's pollinator conservation program — helping protect native pollinators by encouraging people to plant native host and nectar plants right in their own yards. They'll be at the festival to help you register your own pollinator garden and share which native plants work best here in central Iowa.

Meet one of our Gardener's Celebration of Fall vendors: LSI Global Greens, a program of Lutheran Services in Iowa! 🌍

For over a decade, Global Greens has helped refugee farmers reconnect with the land — giving them access to farmland at their incubator farm in West Des Moines, along with training and business support as they build their own small farming operations. Alongside familiar Iowa staples like tomatoes, onions, and greens, their farmers also grow crops that are hard to find anywhere else in the metro — varieties tied to their home countries, from Burundi to beyond.

Live music, a food truck, local vendors, garlic to plant and take home, bulbs to plant for spring, seeds to save, and plenty of harvest to taste. This one's for anyone who loves a good garden, a good snack, and a good excuse to be outside on a Saturday.

🌱 Come Dig In With Us — Monthly Garden Day: Work Learn Connect

Join Nine Square Feet this Sunday for our Monthly Garden Day! We'll be doing clean-up in the Learning Garden after a downed branch removal, and getting things ready for our upcoming Gardener's Celebration of Fall in September. 🍂

No experience needed — just bring your hands and enthusiasm. Whether you can stay for 20 minutes or the whole morning, every bit of help makes a difference.
