Sharon lost her battle to cancer on January 4, 2010 at the age of 49. She met each challenge of surgery, chemotherapy and treatments with confidence and a positive outlook hoping and praying that she would get her miracle; she NEVER questioned “why me?”
Golf was a passion of Sharon’s. When she was given her diagnosis, she asked, “Can I still play Golf?” This was one of her goals. She was able to play golf one last time in the fall of 2009. In February 2011, we were invited to attend the annual Jimmy Fund Golf Awards Appreciation Night. “Swing For Sharon” was recognized for contributing over $8,000 in proceeds from our first golf tournament. It was them that we realized the full magnitude of what could be accomplished with all the funds raised through these golf tournaments. In 2011 the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care was opened at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. We heard the gratitude from families touched by cancer and how much Dana Farber has done for them. With your help, even more can be done next year. The struggles of many families are made easier through the support and care offered at the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care. On July 30, 2011 we are holding our second annual “Swing For Sharon” Golf Tournament at the East Greenwich Golf Course, East Greenwich, Rhode Island. We hope that you will be able to help support the Jimmy Fund in Sharon’s honor and memory. For those of you who have contributed in the past, we could not have accomplished any of this without you. We greatly appreciate anything you can do to help us this year. Every day another family is touched by cancer. With your generosity, soon there will be a cure.
