Meet Selam, an entrepreneur creating innovative ways to connect farmer and buyer!

When Selam saw the need for our New Roots farmers to get their fresh produce to local communities, she launched a mobile farmer's market to move crops from the field right to customers. Rollin Harvest purchases produce directly from farmers who may face challenges with distribution and brings it directly to customers, improving accessibility of local produce.

It might be 80+ degrees outside, but winter is right around the corner! We’ve launched collections for new & like-new winter clothing items in all sizes. Our priority needs are coats/jackets, warm boots, and waterproof gloves. Help us ensure local families have the winter items they need to stay warm in the months ahead. Gather your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors to clean out closets or purchase new items!

Our initial collections will run through Friday, October 16—right up to our winter clothing distribution event on October 16 & 17. Volunteer opportunities are OPEN for the distribution event. Get started by visiting Rescue.org/WarmWelcomeSLC

In response to the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, the IRC in UT has partnered with Lifting Hands International (LHI) in an effort to collect much-needed donations throughout August.

“The road to recovery is incredibly long and difficult. As people continue rebuilding, we’ll be there to provide the resources needed to get back on their feet with mental or physical healthcare, rebuilding infrastructure, or skills training. Please donate today to help Venezuelan families meet their most basic needs with dignity.” - LHI

Our Future Ready Summer Program helps prepare high school youth to learn new skills and reach their goals. Last month, Zions Bank supported our program by hosting mock job interviews. The students were able to build their confidence, and highlight their skills while learning new ones. We are thankful for this collaboration.

Help us create more opportunities like this one by donating to our Gift of Adventure Fund. We hope to send 10 youth to a leadership building camping trip in October. Visit https://irc.donordrive.com/events/785 to help us reach our funding goal.

Meet Albert — a dedicated and inspiring New Roots Farmer in Utah. Albert was a teenager when civil war broke out in Chad in 1979, forcing him to flee and seek asylum. He was able to reach safety but spent a decade separated from his family. Once reunited the family resettled in Utah as refugees, where Albert began volunteering to support other refugee families.

Albert started with a small garden and later joined the New Roots program in 2010. He grows a variety of crops and now sells produce locally while helping feed his community. For Albert, farming is both livelihood and well-being: a source of physical health, mental strength, and connection with other refugee farmers.

This World Refugee Day, we would like to invite you to take action—one step, one conversation, one policy, one opportunity, one welcome. When we show up for our newest neighbors, something powerful happens: strangers become neighbors, fear becomes hope, and crisis becomes a second chance.

In Utah, we’re working to help families settle in, closing the distance from surviving to thriving. Our College & Career Readiness program is planning a fall camping trip for 10 newcomer youth to help them develop a firm foundation to build their future.

Help us give the gift of adventure to this group of youth by making a contribution to our Gift of Adventure Fund. Every dollar raised will stay local in Utah to support this group of youth and other essential education programming efforts. Make a gift today: https://irc.donordrive.com/events/786

Thank you for showing up for our newest neighbors each & every day!
