At Sunday's Mindfulness and Meditation class, Ajahn Neth/Suvanno Biku asked us an important question: How is your personal meditation practice going right now?

Our practice isn't a straight line—it changes based on our energy, our schedules, and our minds.

Let's do a gentle community check-in. Where does your practice feel like it's landing this week? Drop a number in the comments below, or share a thought:

🌱 1. Planting Seeds: Just getting started (or re-started!) and focusing on showing up for a few minutes.
🪵 2. Tending the Fire: Practicing regularly, but noticing a lot of restlessness, racing thoughts, or distraction.
🌊 3. Finding Flow: Feeling a sense of steadiness, ease, or calm during your sits lately.
🌧️ 4. Weathering a Storm: Finding it hard to sit right now due to a busy schedule, stress, or exhaustion.

No matter where you are on the list, remember there is no "wrong" way to be present. How are you doing this week? 👇

The Trap of "Counting Other People’s Cows" 🐄

In a recent dharma talk about Right Livelihood, Ajahn Neth/Suvanno Biku reminded us of a powerful warning from the Dhammapada (v. 19-20). It’s easy to become a collector of spiritual concepts, wise quotes, and sacred texts. But the Buddha compared someone who memorizes the texts without practicing them to a cowherd who simply counts everyone else’s livestock—they don't actually taste the milk.

Right Livelihood and true practice aren't about how much we can recite or how many ideas we hold. It’s about how little room we leave for lust, hatred, and delusion in our actual daily lives. Even a tiny bit of teaching, when fully lived and put into practice with an emancipated mind, carries the true blessings of a holy life. 🧘‍♂️🙏🏻

Reflection for the day: Where are we just "counting cows," and where are we actually doing the work of letting go?

The Power of the Pause 🛑

We’ve all been there: a situation happens, we instantly assume the worst, and anger takes over. It happens in a split second.

The Buddha offered an image for this exact human habit in the Dhammapada: "When anger arises, whoever keeps firm control as if with a racing chariot: him I call a master charioteer. Anyone else, a rein-holder—that's all."

During this past Sunday’s Mindfulness and Meditation class, Ajahn Neth /Suvanno Biku asked us, “What is the benefit of getting angry?” Jumping to conclusions is like letting a racing chariot pull us over a cliff. When we rush to judgment, we are no longer in control; our anger is driving us.

This week’s mindfulness practice:
When you feel that hot flash of irritation or the urge to assume the worst, try the Three-Breath Rule:
1. Breath 1: Notice the physical feeling of anger (tight chest, clenched jaw).
2. Breath 2: Acknowledge the story your mind is telling you ("They did that on purpose").
3. Breath 3: Ask a mindful question: Do I have the whole story right now?

Let’s step into the driver’s seat of our own minds today. 🌿
