Yesterday, we hosted our first farmworker tour of the season at Katama Farm!

This historic island farm houses the educational programs and barns at The FARM Institute and grazing land used by the livestock operations at Slough Farm and Morning Glory Farm.

We met the Slough Farm flerd (a combination flock/herd), and Morning calves and pigs. We also talked all about island livestock, from grazing plans to annual forages to fencing setups.

If you'd like to get in on the fun, we have a variety of farm tours open to everyone at our first annual Farm Day tomorrow. Sign up on our website!

This What's Growing Wednesday is all about The FARM Institute, a Trustees property housed on the historic Katama Farm!

The FARM Institute has animals to visit, an educational garden coordinated by Slough Farm, pick-your-own sunflowers in the fall, and a farm store. They also offer an abundance of cooking and agricultural programs for all ages and a summer farm camp.

Sign up for one of their programs on the Trustees' website or stop by to meet some local livestock and pick up some eggs!

PS: Morning Glory Farm and Slough Farm also lease land at Katama Farm for grazing. Sign up for our livestock tour on Friday to get a sense of that side of things!

🥓 🥬 🍅 Learn how the bacon (and lettuce, and tomato) gets made! This Friday, June 26th, we are hosting our first ever Farm Day: a day-long celebration of island agriculture. Go behind the scenes at island farms and learn from farmers themselves how our local food is grown. All tours are free and open to all ages!

This year's farm day will include six island farms: Beetlebung Farm, Island Grown Initiative, Morning Glory Farm, Native Earth Teaching Farm, North Tabor Farm, and Whippoorwill Farm (plus a bonus tour of Allen Farm next Tuesday!). Tour times vary by farm.

Happy (belated) What's Growing Wednesday! Today, we're highlighting the West Tisbury Farmers Market, which we're so happy to host our grounds every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 to noon, rain or shine.

The market has over 30 vendors selling island-grown vegetables, meat, seafood, flowers, and other locally sourced food and products. Stop by this summer for a one-stop shop of the best the island has to offer!

Happy What's Growing Wednesday! This week is all about Whippoorwill Farm, a five-acre flower, vegetable, and berry farm in West Tisbury. The farm is in the process of converting to minimal-till, regenerative organic practices, with a strong emphasis on soil health and efficient production systems for small scale agriculture.

Whippoorwill Farm products are available at the Whippoorwill farmstand on Old County Road, at sister market North Tisbury Market on State Road, and at the West Tisbury Farmers Market. Stop by today for the most gorgeous peonies, lettuce, and seedlings!
