Our Harvest Festival is only 48 hours away, and weather looks clear! We can't wait to celebrate the harvest season with you.

From the Collection: For more than a century and a half, the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair has been one of the Island’s favorite annual celebrations. This program from the 1879 Fair, held in early October, includes elements that are a mix of recognizable and unfamiliar to this year’s fair goers. The exhibition hall, the judging of livestock, and sack races remain perennial favorites. On the other hand, events like baseball games and greased-pole climbs have given way to the woodsman’s competition, the women’s skillet toss, and dog show. Originally held in mid-fall to celebrate the harvest, the Fair now takes place in late summer, alongside other mid-August traditions like Illumination Night and the Oak Bluffs fireworks. Harvest Fest is THIS Saturday 10/24 at the Ag Hall in WT! We are teaching an *oyster shucking lesson at 11 am for all ages, no experience needed. We have knives, gloves, ice and oysters. Our table will also have a touch tank with small, live shellfish seed for you to meet before it gets planted out, creepy, crawly predators, and info about the mighty bivalve.

*Thank you to The Net Result for sponsoring our shucking lessons at Harvest Fest and the Ag Fair this year. Live shellfish can be intimidating if you're not used to handling them. We love working with community partners to increase folks' access to fresh and local shellfish.

The leaves are turning, the nights are cool, and fall is here in earnest! Want to make the most of the season? This What's Growing Wednesday, we're launching our fall farm bingo!

This is a bingo card with family-friendly activities that support island farmers, fishermen, and shellfishermen. Complete five squares and show any island children's librarian for a prize! Want a challenge? Complete 10 squares, then email [email protected] for a larger prize. All ages are welcome!

🍀 4-H registration is open! 4-H clubs meet monthly and connect youth to local agriculture, crafts, and the island at large.

Does your kid want to join in on the fun this fall? We still have slots in four of our clubs:
🧶 Weaving Club (ages 8-11): meets at the Ag Hall on Sundays from 11 to 1 (10/25, 11/15, 12/13, 1/10, 2/7, 3/7, 4/4, 5/2)
🖼️ Crafts of Yesteryear (ages 9-12): meets at MV Museum on Sundays from 2-4 PM (10/18, 11/22, 12/13, spring dates TBD)
🐴 Misty Meadows Horse Club (ages 9-14): meets at Misty Meadows on Saturdays (10/17 9:30am-12:30pm, 11/21 2-3:30pm, 12/19 time TBD, spring dates TBD)
🎨 Paint Club (ages 10-15): meets at the Ag Hall on Sundays from 10:30 to noon (10/18, 11/8, 12/6, 1/17, 2/14, 3/14, 4/11, 5/16)
