BREAKING: “END THE NIGHTMARE!” Americans FLOOD the streets for nationwide NO KINGS protests – and turn their anger at Trump into a call to action at the ballot box!
From Washington, D.C., to New York, Michigan, Florida, and California, Americans poured into the streets Saturday for another massive day of demonstrations against Donald Trump and his administration.
While it's still too early to know exactly how many people attended, visual evidence suggests enormous crowds gathered in cities across the country, with thousands of events planned in all 50 states.
And some of the most spectacular images came from San Francisco's Ocean Beach, where hundreds of demonstrators arranged themselves into giant human letters spelling out “VOTE!” and “NO KINGS!” with an enormous American flag at the center.
But this latest round of protests has a new urgency. With the November midterms approaching and early voting already underway in several states, organizers are turning their demonstrations into voter education and mobilization events.
In Lansing, Michigan, Janet Shepler, who has attended all four No Kings demonstrations, told Michigan Public that she could feel the difference.
“This feels different. This feels more directed towards what's coming up, not just a general protest.”
Then she offered a distinctly American assessment of the situation:
“This is America, and there are a lot more of us than the crazies.”
In Tallahassee, Florida, 21-year-old Florida State University student Sam Kokales brought a more personal concern to the demonstration. Facing nearly $100,000 in medical bills after an illness, he told the Florida Phoenix:
“We need better healthcare coverage – Medicare for all.”
Kokales also planned to help with early voting at his university beginning Monday.
Across the country, protesters carried handmade signs, marched through city streets, and urged their neighbors to participate in the November 3 elections.
And on that San Francisco beach, hundreds of people delivered the day's message in letters big enough to be read from the sky:
“VOTE TO END THE NIGHTMARE.”
