Today marks an exciting milestone for our riverfront and our entire community as we celebrated the official groundbreaking for the new Vigo County YMCA this morning.

This state of the art renovation is a major step forward for regional health, wellness, and quality of life. More than that, it represents a shared vision of a vibrant, accessible riverfront district that serves everyone in our area.

Thank you to our city officials, organizations, and dedicated donors who have invested their time and resources into making this project a reality. We are incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone alongside you today!

A quiet morning in nature to reflect, remember, and honor. Today, we are pausing to honor the brave heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are incredibly grateful for the freedom to gather, explore, and enjoy the beautiful spaces in our community. Wishing you all a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day.

Over 6 MILLION birds just traveled through Vigo County this weekend! 🌌🦅 While we were sleeping, the skies over the Wabash River were incredibly busy. According to live weather radar data from BirdCast, a wave of spring migration hit our area over the last 48 hours.

🐦‍⬛Friday Night: A staggering 3,813,100 birds crossed the county, peaking at midnight with over 303,000 birds in the air at once, flying a brisk 47 mph!

🐦‍⬛ Saturday Night: Another 2,277,700 birds followed closely behind, peaking at 1:10 AM with 224,000 in flight simultaneously.

That means more than 6 million migratory songbirds used the skies right above our heads as a highway this weekend alone. Most of these travelers journey under the cover of darkness, relying on the stars to navigate. Our local river corridors, wetlands, and wooded trails provide vital daytime rest stops and refueling stations for them before they continue their journey north.

How we can help the final stragglers? While the weekend rush is slowing down some tonight, migration continues through the week. Flipping off unnecessary outdoor lights or closing your blinds between 11pm and 6am keeps our skies dark, clear, and safe for the final waves of the season.

Keep an eye out on the trails or at your backyard feeders tomorrow… you might just spot some unique new visitors resting up along the Wabash! 🪶✨

For 20 years, Wabash Riverscape has been dedicated to a single mission: connecting our community to the incredible natural resource right in our backyard.

As we look back on two decades of growth, we are incredibly grateful for the support that has brought the Riverfront Master Plan to life. To celebrate this milestone, and to look ahead at what's next, we are
putting the finishing touches on a special community celebration for late June.

We look forward to gathering for an evening of live music, kids activities, food, and community fellowship. Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing the full details and schedule right here. Thank you for being such an integral part of this journey. We can't wait to celebrate with you soon!

We are so excited to support Birthday on the Bash put on by WTWO TV! This June 27th, Fairbanks Park will be the place to be as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday with music, food, and patriotic pride.

As part of this massive community celebration, we are doing something a little different this year! We’re bringing our favorite Explore Wabashiki vendors and activities directly to Birthday on the Bash. You can visit them a long with many others throughout the day!

Don't worry! We still have plenty of hiking and outdoor activities planned for the Wetlands in September, but for June, it’s all about the Bash!

Join us for:
🏃‍♂️ Color Run
🍔 Great Food & Live Music
🇺🇸 Kids activities and patriotic pride
🎆 Drone show, helicopters, and more!

It was inspiring to see the Civil Engineering seniors from Rose-Hulman present their Riverside Road Revitalization Project to the Board of Public Works. This corridor, stretching from Cherry Street down to Honey Creek Drive, is a vital link in our community's connection to the river. The data and creative recommendations these students provided offer a fresh, actionable roadmap for how our community can continue to improve and activate these spaces. Great work to the team for helping shape a more vibrant future for our riverfront!

Rose-Hulman students presented their Riverside Road Revitalization Project to the Board of Public Works and Safety yesterday morning, demonstrating impressive innovation, technical expertise, and creative solutions for the future of our community.

As part of a Civil Engineering Senior Design Project, these students conducted an in-depth study of the 2.5-mile Riverside Road corridor from Cherry Street to Hulman Street, as well as Prairieton Road from Hulman Street to Honey Creek Drive. Their work provided the City with meaningful data, strategic insights, and innovative recommendations that can help shape future improvements along the corridor.

Their professionalism, creativity, and outside-the-box thinking impressed everyone in attendance, and the City now has valuable, data-driven, and actionable information to help guide future decisions for our community.

There’s something special about seeing a bald eagle tending to its nest right here on the riverfront. It’s a perfect look at the kind of strength and care we’re celebrating today. We’re proud to get a front row view of these spaces where families, of every species, can thrive. Whether you’re out on the trails today or just enjoying the view with mom, we hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day.

A Masterpiece of a Legacy ✨ We are so proud to see Fred and Nancy Nation recognized with the dedication of the library within the newly renovated Swope Art Museum!

To our team at Riverscape, Fred is a visionary who turns "what if" into "what is." Whether he was steering the museum’s future as its 13th Executive Director or navigating our riverfront development progress, Fred has always been the steady hand at the helm. To see the Nation name permanently tied to the Swope — an institution Fred led with such distinction — is a beautiful tribute to a couple who has given so much to our community. From the riverfront to this wonderful new space at the Swope, their impact is everywhere.

Congratulations, Fred and Nancy! Terre Haute is brighter because of your dedication.
