ABC's Build Tampa Bay Foundation & Brink Foundation Partner to Contribute $30,000 to Hillsborough County Public Schools to Support Students Interested in High-Demand Construction Jobs
Tampa, Fla. – (April 28, 2020) – Build Tampa Bay has partnered with the Brink Foundation to announced a $30,000 donation to two Hillsborough County Public high schools to support students interested in productive, professional career paths in home building and related skilled professions. Leto High School’s Electrical Program will receive $15,000, while Middleton High’s Construction Program will receive $15,000 to purchase equipment and other tools that will facilitate in the learning process.
The Build Tampa Bay Foundation was created to encourage high school students to explore career opportunities in construction-related fields, which will continue to see record demand in years to come. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the skilled worker shortage is expected to grow to 1.6 million workers in the construction industry by 2022.
Build Tampa Bay’s annual trade show and job fair, which successfully connects students with local employers looking for new talent, was set to take place tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, but was cancelled due to coronavirus concerns.
Build Tampa Bay hosted a Press Conference Zoom Call to encourage our seniors looking for immediate employment in this high-demand industry to reach out to Build Tampa Bay for support and job prospects. Even as the economy faces uncertainty during a pandemic, the construction market was one of the only areas in the American economy to add jobs. School leaders believe connecting our talented learners with local construction businesses will not only help graduates find immediate jobs, but also help our local economy.
“I want to commend the Build Tampa Bay Foundation for providing our learners with the valuable tools they need to be career ready. Our students will gain world-class knowledge that will translate into high-demand careers, even during this unprecedented time in our community,” said Hillsborough Schools Superintendent Addison Davis.
Board Member Steve C**a, who is also Executive Officer with Build Tampa Bay, believes it is important to provide support to our next generation of leaders in order to be prepared with a high-demand job after graduation.
“Hillsborough Schools is cultivating a talented work force who will literally build the future of Tampa Bay. This monetary donation, and support through Build Tampa Bay, will go a long way to preparing our students for life, as well as fulfilling, high-paying careers,” said C**a.
