Her boyfriend left when he found out she was pregnant. He never returned. No support. No questions. Just gone. Life became harder overnight. But she chose to keep her baby and raise her herself. Because love is worth the risk.

Her hands have worked hard. They’ve held her husband’s hand during marriage and her babies before they could walk. They’ve held a hoe many a day and cultivated land she could never afford to own. They’ve worked hard to provide for her family and put her children through school. They’ve held tightly to her Bible when they had to bury her husband and they held her up as she took on her children alone. For years they protected her from her son who beat her because he was not mentally stable and it seems like yesterday that they held his hand as he passed into the arms of Jesus. They cared for her daughter until they couldn’t anymore and then they buried her, too. They still work, even as old as she is, and they still clench her Bible because in all her life, He is the only thing that has remained all this time. Honored to hold her hand and love her. She is so precious to me.

He didn’t say a word when they brought him to us. Not even a sound. Just those tired eyes and that little body that looked like it had fought too many battles already. Nobody really knew what was wrong. They just kept saying he hadn’t eaten much, hadn’t played, hadn’t spoken in days. We held him. Fed him. Sat with him while he tried to swallow a few sips at a time. Sometimes ministry looks like big miracles. Sometimes it looks like sitting beside a sick little boy who can’t speak and trusting God to speak for him.

"At that time I returned home to find Mom had brewed 2 jerry cans full of alcohol. That is 40 litres. So when I told my Mom that I am saved she got perturbed actually. She asked how we are going to cater for your school fees and for our lives here at home because for her she was an Anglican and they didn’t have much trouble with brewing the alcohol. I told her that God would care but I also didn’t know what could be done.

Then she asked me a question – 'What are we going to do with these 2 jerrycans of alcohol?' I had just gotten saved so I didn’t know much about how to go about Christian ethics. I told her, 'Let’s go and sell it.' So we walked 13km to the market center, carrying them on our heads, and only half a litre sold. We carried it all the way back home.

The following day we were supposed to carry it another 10km to the town of Masindi. We sold it very cheaply because the market had refused. Instead of selling it for 1500 shillings for a 5ml jerry can, we sold it for 400. And my Mom looked at me and said, 'I think God is fighting this.' So the issue of selling alcohol ended there. We didn’t continue with it. I then had to go around the village looking for jobs. I could go and dig to make the money to pay my school fees."

The church should lead the way in serving the most vulnerable. He called us to rise up, not shrink back while we wait for others to take care of children who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected.

WE are the change we've been waiting for. People have prayed for generations for chains to be broken.

We are here, Lord.

Friends, how are y'all doing? I'd love to hear from each of you. Tell me something good. Tell me something bold and brave and true and beautiful. Something you've seen or maybe something that happened to you lately. Or maybe Scripture or a quote or just a thought you have.

Bless us today with whatever you have to share.

She flips the page, looks around the room, imagines her future. She wants to be an author. She wants to tell stories about this village, the kids, the mothers, the life she knows. She smiles quietly and writes.

He’s completely absorbed, twisting plastic bags into a soccer ball. His new shoes are caked in mud, his fingers are sticky, and his legs are streaked. He’s not thinking about the mess. He’s thinking about making it perfect. Every time he adjusts the shape, he leans closer, concentrating. The world is gone except for him and that soccer ball.

She hopped on a boda and rode off into the sunset with this new guy her parents told her not to be talking to. He talked to her alright - he talked her into more than she imagined. She was looking for love and he was looking for a good time. When she returned home days later there was a life growing inside her. It would be months before her parents found out and way too late for them to suggest "taking the baby out". It crushed them to hear the news and they were furious at this guy whom she never heard from after finding out he would soon be a father. Life at home was rough and she thought about running but she knew there was nowhere to go where she would get the kind of support she'd always gotten from her parents. This time was different though. Always their favorite, she had broken rules and broken trust. It was hard there at home and she always felt like she had risked her whole life for those few days. But, with every new kick from inside her, she realized how much she loved this baby. And love was worth the risk.

Today, she lost her husband. Today, they lost their Daddy.

He had a fever and died. No one should die of a fever.

This family has no funds for a burial. Could you help us raise money for a coffin?

Above all, please pray.

With word that the country has Ebola and Marburg outbreaks, you can imagine the fear that has grasped our village for weeks, and now this.

Please pray for his wife and children. Pray for peace and that we find answers. Pray for provision for a funeral.

If all you can give is $5, it’s huge, as it adds up quickly.

Outbreaks of Ebola and Marburg have been reported in Uganda.

Please pray with us.

We’ve had an alarming uptick in Covid-like symptoms and are working quickly to isolate and treat patients. We’re not equipped to handle more than we are right now.

We have run out of medicine again.

Can you help?

Every single dollar you can give is crucial.
