Behind every overdose statistic is a person. A son or daughter. A parent. A sibling. A friend. Someone who was loved, who had a story, and whose life mattered. On this International Overdose Awareness Day, the Jack Jonah Foundation is creating a space dedicated to remembering those lives.

Jack’s story is where ours began. We hope this space can now help carry the stories of others, too.

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone.

For some, it comes in waves. For others, it shows up in unexpected moments, even years after a loss. There is no single way to grieve and no deadline for when someone should be “okay.”

On National Grief Awareness Day, we recognize those carrying the loss of someone they love and the many different ways grief can become part of life.

When someone you love is struggling with substance use, the instinct to help can be powerful. But sometimes, the line between supporting someone and enabling harmful behavior can be difficult to recognize.

Support can mean listening, encouraging treatment, setting healthy boundaries, and being there without taking responsibility for someone else's choices. Enabling, often done with the best intentions, can unintentionally make it easier for harmful patterns to continue.

Understanding the difference can help you care for someone you love while also protecting your own well-being.

Seven years ago this August, the cameras started rolling on the Jack Jonah Film.

What began as a deeply personal story became a way to honor Jack, raise awareness about the realities of addiction, and help families and communities have conversations that are often difficult to start.

Seven years later, Jack’s story continues to be shared, remembered, and used to help others.

Today, we’re looking back at some of the moments behind the making of Jack Jonah and the people who helped bring his story to the screen.

Exciting News from the Michael J. Dias Foundation!
The Michael J. Dias Foundation is proud to announce the appointment of Gina Maria Alimberti as our Executive Director. After serving as Interim Executive Director, Gina has officially accepted the role and will continue leading the organization as we expand our impact throughout Western Massachusetts.

Alimberti brings more than two decades of nonprofit, community, and organizational leadership experience to her role. Her career has included leadership positions with the New England Air Museum, the Connecticut Trolley Museum, and the Bradley Regional Chamber of Commerce, where she developed extensive experience in fundraising, community engagement, marketing, event development, and building strong relationships with businesses and community partners. Throughout her career, she has been committed to strengthening nonprofit organizations and connecting them with the communities they serve. She brings that same passion and dedication to the Michael J. Dias Foundation as the organization enters its next chapter of growth and impact.

"I'm honored to continue serving the Michael J. Dias Foundation and helping build a future where more individuals have access to the support they need to achieve lasting recovery," said Gina Maria.

We are also excited to share that the Foundation has recently purchased its first women's sober home.
