In recent years, with the help from donations from caring neighbors, we were able to assist several families who would not otherwise be able to update their homes. These families, as well as their neighbors, were most appreciative of our assistance. Projects we have completed include

- Restoring the exterior clock at Cowing School
- Landscaping, aesthetic and safety improvements for a highly visi

ble home on a major thoroughfare in town
- Refurbishing and relocating the flagpole from the old high school to it’s new home at the town’s local history museum
- Installation of porch flooring and miscellaneous repairs on home on North Boulevard
- Restoration of the gazebo on Monastery Ave and addition of a wheelchair ramp

We are looking for good neighbors like you to help with projects like this.

Save the date! We are holding our Adopt-A-House work day on Saturday, May 2nd! As usual, we’ll be doing yard cleanup and trimming, exterior repairs to doors and windows, and various handyman fixes.

We welcome your help!

When: 5/2 at 9:00 am
Where: 10mKing’s Highway. NOTE: there is no parking at the property, but plenty across the street at the old White Church/Rotary Records.

Be sure to bring your own gloves, sunscreen and eye protection.

Thank you to everyone who came on Saturday to rid themselves of old files and electronics! We had one of our most successful drives ever and collected lots of food for the Parish Cupboard!

Reminder: we will be having our Adopt-A-House project workday on 5/2 and are happy to have more volunteers. Message us here if you would like to help.

Also, we are putting together a repair café clinic in the fall and seek volunteers who would like to contribute their skills. Of particular interest are people with skills and tools to do things like repair garments and plush toys, bicycles and small appliances, and to sharpen knives and tools. If you would like to help, please send us a message.

Are you a maker, fixer, or someone who just loves helping neighbors? This October, West Side Helping Hands and the Senior Center will be hosting a Repair Clinic, and we’re looking for volunteers to share their skills.

A Repair Clinic is a one‑day event where community members can bring in broken household items—lamps, bicycles, small appliances, clothing that needs mending, knives and tools that need sharpening, even dolls and toys that could use a little TLC. Volunteers help diagnose, repair, and teach, keeping useful items out of the landfill and helping people save money.

If you’d like to be part of the repair team, please message us here or text 413‑626‑2740 with your contact information and a brief note about your skills or areas of expertise.

If you are interested in joining West Side Helping Hands and assisting us with our community improvement events like Adopt A House or our shredding and recycling events, please message us here to let us know!
