🍀Tomorrow we’ll be marching in the Buffalo St. Patrick’s Day Parade for the second year in a row. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it this time due to a firefighter training commitment. I’m definitely disappointed to miss it, last year was a great time, and with the weather looking rain free this year, hopefully we’ll have an even bigger turnout from our members and their families.

Shirts will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. Mark Carpenter and Sean Bernas will be leading the group. Let’s make sure we represent the Union with pride.

You can find them lining up on the east side of City Hall. 🍀

I’d like to give a huge congratulations to our third-year apprentices. You all put in the work to master your craft, and it truly showed.

A special shoutout to this year’s top scorer on the Journeyman test — Tommy Owens (aka Tommy YG). This was well deserved. Tommy never quit, worked his ass off every day, and proved that hard work pays off.

Now wake up and go get that money, brother!

Also, a big thank you to Sean Bernas, Carmen Spataro, Chris Miller, and Rick White for the time and effort you put into teaching and preparing this group. Your dedication made a difference.

What a turnout at our membership meeting tonight, one of the biggest February meetings we’ve seen in years.

Members came prepared with solid questions and thoughtful feedback. The unity and solidarity we’ve built over the last several years continues to show.

This isn’t easy to post, but it’s necessary.

Mental health and su***de, especially among men, don’t get talked about enough. We’re expected to be strong, provide, fix problems, and push through no matter what, often struggling in silence.

Sadly, I have known three men who took their own lives, and in every case there were no obvious signs anything was wrong. They showed up, worked hard, joked around, just like anyone else. That’s the scary part, you don’t always see the pain someone is carrying.

That’s why checking on each other matters. Talking about mental health matters. Asking for help is not weakness, it’s strength. Listening without judgment can save a life.

If you’re struggling, you’re not alone, and you matter more than you may realize. If you notice someone pulling away, reach out. Even a simple “you good?” can make a difference.

When I was asked to interview our first 65-year member since the International began awarding lifetime memberships at this milestone, I wasn’t too excited. I remember thinking, What could I possibly have in common with him? What will we even talk about?

That lunch, however, turned out to be one of the best I had all of 2025. Tom’s energy and dry comedic banter were exactly what you’d expect from a lifelong roofer. It was truly an honor to share his story with the International.
