Scholarship Description

The Dream Haiti Scholarship is for students who are of Haitian descent, attending a college in
the U.S and have a desire to make a difference in their community as well as the Haitian
community. This is a faith-based scholarship.
Deadline: June 19th, 2026

Scholarship Details
• There are 3 scholarships awarded for the 2026-2027 school year at $1,000, $1,500 and
$2000.
• Accepted scholars may be invited to various seminars and connect events over the
course of their college years put on by Dream Haiti.

Eligibility Criteria
• Must be of Haitian descent.
• Must be a full-time student.
• Must demonstrate leadership potential, commitment to the Christian faith, and
community service.
• Must have a GPA of at least 2.5.

We are excited to introduce Marvin Petion, one of the 2025 Dream Haiti Scholarship recipients, whose dream for the future is matched by his dedication and heart for his local and broader community. Keep him in prayer this semester to continue along the path that God has for him.

“My name is Marvin Petion, and I am a Junior double majoring in Nuclear Medicine Technology and Biological Sciences at the University at Buffalo.

I am of Haitian descent, born to two Haitian parents who immigrated to the United States in the 1990s. As a young Black man growing up in the streets of Brooklyn, New York, rarely did I see any Black doctors, or, for that matter, anyone pursuing degrees of higher education from my community. I aim to make a difference in my community by motivating other young Black men or women to pursue advanced degrees and follow their dreams, no matter how ambitious those dreams may be.

A current and specific topic that is near and dear to my heart is the state of the country Haiti today. As a descendant of Haitian immigrants, I grew up hearing great stories about Haiti. I’ve heard stories about how beautiful Haiti is, how rich it is in resources, and its stunning beaches. All my life, I've been taught to value where I come from, as Haiti holds historical importance as the first free Black republic in the world.

Although these familial stories made me want to visit my country, as of 2025, Haiti is in a state of distress. The country has no president following the assassination which occurred in 2021. Schools are being burnt down, prisons are being opened, criminals are being released, and gangs are effectively running the country.

As a recipient of the Dream Haiti Scholarship, my dream is for Haiti to be known as the beautiful country it once was. If the Lord permits it, I want to work with a team dedicated to the reconstruction of Haiti, whether through medical, political, economic, or religious efforts. As an aspiring physician, I especially want to work with medical outreach organizations to build a stronger healthcare infrastructure for future generations. I know the state of Haiti right now is upsetting and disheartening, but I also know that if God is first, all things are possible. Through faith and effort, the world can be reminded of Haiti’s beauty, strength, and resilience.”
