As Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month comes to a close, HAFA is proud to honor the generations of Hmong farmers, families, and community members whose knowledge, resilience, and traditions continue shaping local agriculture across Minnesota.

Farming is deeply connected to culture, family, and community — and HAFA’s mission remains rooted in supporting Hmong farmers while strengthening equitable and sustainable food systems for all.

This month and every month, we celebrate the stories, contributions, and leadership of AAPI communities.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who lost their lives in service to this country.

Memorial Day often marks the unofficial beginning of summer. But before the gatherings, travel, and long weekends begin, it's important to recognize the deeper meaning of this day and the sacrifices made by so many families across generations.

At HAFA, we also reflect on the quiet ways communities care for one another every day. Through farming, feeding neighbors, preserving cultural traditions, and building stronger local food systems, we are reminded that community itself is something worth protecting and nurturing.

Many of our farmers spend this season preparing fields, planting crops, and continuing work that connects families to the land and to each other. There is something grounding about that rhythm, especially on a day meant for remembrance.

From all of us at HAFA, we wish you a meaningful and peaceful Memorial Day.

At HAFA, growing food is only one part of the story. Behind every harvest is a system that makes it possible—spaces for storage, equipment for processing, and infrastructure that supports farmers at every stage of their work.

We’re beginning to share more about our Capital Improvement Project, which focuses on strengthening these essential systems. This work is about creating long-term sustainability, ensuring that farmers have what they need not just for this season, but for many seasons to come.

When we talk about building stronger food systems, this is what we mean. It’s thoughtful, behind-the-scenes work that creates real impact over time.

We’re looking forward to bringing you along as we share more about what this project includes and how it will support both farmers and the broader community.

Some seasons don’t arrive loudly.
They return quietly, one small sign at a time.

A bud opening where there was once only bare ground.
Longer days after months of cold.
Rows of produce stretching toward the sun.

Spring has always carried a certain kind of hope on the HAFA Farm. A reminder that growth often begins before we can fully see it.

As another season begins, we’ve been reflecting on the many moments — past and present — that make this work meaningful: farmers tending the land with care, families gathering around fresh food, students learning where their food comes from, and community members choosing to support local agriculture year after year.

Growth doesn’t happen overnight. It takes patience, care, uncertainty, and hope.

And spring reminds us that even after long seasons, growth is still possible.

If you’ve been thinking about joining HAFA’s CSA, this is your reminder. There’s still time, but not much.

The extended deadline to sign up is tomorrow, Sunday, May 3, at 11:59 PM CST. This is your opportunity to join a community that directly supports Hmong American family farmers while receiving fresh, locally grown produce throughout the season.

CSA membership is more than a weekly box of fruits and vegetables. It’s a commitment to strengthening our local food system. Your upfront support allows farmers to invest in seeds, soil, and equipment, ensuring a successful growing season from the very beginning.

Whether you choose the Veggie Champion Annual Share for a full season of variety or the Spring Share for a shorter, 4-week experience, you’ll be part of something meaningful.

Take a moment today to sign up and secure your share.

We heard you—and we’re giving you a little more time.

The deadline to sign up for HAFA’s CSA has officially been extended to Sunday, May 3, at 11:59 PM CST. If you’ve been meaning to join but haven’t had the chance yet, this is your moment.

When you sign up for a CSA share, you’re doing more than purchasing fresh, locally grown food. You’re making a direct investment in Hmong American family farmers—helping them prepare for the season ahead by funding seeds, soil, and essential equipment. That early support is what makes a full, abundant harvest possible for everyone.

Our Veggie Champion Annual Share runs from May through November and provides a steady, weekly variety of fresh produce for your household. Whether you choose a full or half share, you’ll receive thoughtfully grown, seasonal fruits and vegetables that reflect the care and dedication of our farmers.

If you’re looking for something shorter, our Spring CSA Share is a 4-week program beginning May 11—perfect for easing into the season with fresh, early crops.

This extension is a second chance—but it’s also the final one. We’d love for you to be part of this season with us.

Our CSA is more than just a weekly box of produce or flowers. It’s a way to build a stronger, more connected local food system.

If you’ve been thinking about joining a CSA or simply want to learn more, we hope you’ll stop by. Even a quick visit can help you feel more connected to where your food comes from and the people who grow it.

Earth Day may have been yesterday, but the reminder still stands: caring for the earth is a daily commitment, not a one-time action. At HAFA, our farmers practice sustainable and climate-smart farming methods that protect the soil, conserve water, and support long-term food systems.

From cover cropping to mindful land stewardship, these practices help ensure that future generations can continue to grow and access healthy food. Supporting local farmers is one of the most direct ways to care for the planet.

And your choices truly make an impact.

As we reflect on Earth Day, we’re also thinking about how to deepen that impact for the long term through our Capital Improvement Project.

This effort is about more than infrastructure. It’s about strengthening the systems that support farmers and communities alike. By improving how food is handled and stored, we can reduce waste, expand access, and better support farmers who are committed to sustainable practices.

We’re excited to share more soon. There’s more ahead as we continue shaping this work together.
