Another COED graduate this year from the University of the Philippines, Manila extension in Baler, Aurora. Nicole Mortel graduated in the Bachelor of Science, Nursing program. Below is her message of gratitude to the COED family and to all our sponsors and supporters.

Dear COED,

Today, as I celebrate my Graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of the Philippines Manila – School of Health Sciences Extension Campus Baler, and as I join my fellow graduates at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) to commemorate this milestone, I am filled with immense gratitude. On this special occasion, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the COED Scholarship Program for believing in me, investing in my education, and helping make this achievement possible.

Your financial assistance was more than just support, it became a source of hope and motivation during the many challenges I encountered throughout my academic journey. Because of your generosity, I was able to focus on my studies, continue pursuing my dreams, and move one step closer to becoming a healthcare professional dedicated to serving others.

Coming from a family with limited financial resources, your scholarship eased a significant burden and reminded me that there are people and organizations willing to uplift students who aspire to make a difference. I am truly grateful for the opportunity you gave me.

As I begin this new chapter, I carry with me not only the knowledge and skills I have gained but also a deep sense of responsibility to give back to the communities that need compassionate and competent healthcare providers. I hope to honor your trust by serving with integrity, excellence, and genuine compassion.

I will always carry your kindness with me, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity you gave me to pursue my dreams. Thank you for being an invaluable part of my journey. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on my life, and I will always be proud to have been one of your scholars.

With sincere appreciation,

Nicole Mortel, RM

Another one of COED’s scholars who graduated this year 2026, Angelica Napiza, from the University of the Philippines, College of Dentistry. She is now reviewing for the dental board exams that will be held in September of this year. Angelica was struggling to finish her degree because of financial difficulties and was unable to get assistance for her last year of school where she needed practical application of all her dental skills. The last year of expenses was just unreachable for her even if she worked and went to school at the same time. COED provided that assistance and thankfully, with that help, she was able to finish and graduate this year.

Congratulations Angelica! Your hard work and perseverance has paid off! We wish you all the best! Thank you to all of COED’s sponsors and supporters for your unwavering support of our scholars! May you all continue to be blessed!

Jericho Matthew Angcon, another one of COED’s scholars who graduated this year, completed his degree in Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at Trinity University of Asia. He wrote the following regarding COED’s impact in completing his education.

“Poverty is something we the common Filipinos are all familiar with. Only a fraction of the general population is privileged to graduate, consequently, fewer people get the chance to land a guaranteed job, and only a select few work in line with their target program. I am forever grateful that I found a support system—through COED—that allows me to pursue my dream without fearing the associated finances.

I aspire to be a scientist or a doctor for the people someday. Unfortunately, this venture comes at a hefty price in the Philippines, literally. Yet, COED opened a pathway wherein I can realize this dream. Through their support, I finished my Bachelor of Science in Biology degree at Trinity University of Asia. COED pushed me to leap through uncertainties and take risks. With this renewed sense of courage, I heeded the call to serve as the editor-in-chief of our university publication and qualified as a junior level science scholar for the country’s Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

More than ever, my aspiration of being a scientist or a doctor burns bright because COED’s support fueled my excellence. The foundation also reduced my worries by helping me with finances in academics and in personal life. No words can express how grateful I am for the help that they gave me. I will surely pay it forward in the near future.

Now, I am pursuing a Master of Science in Molecular Medicine at St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine in advancing STEM in the country. I take this endeavor not only to be closer to my scientist dream but also to address brain drain in the country as the Philippines faces a reality where only 270 researchers per million people are present which is far less than the global benchmark of 4,000 to 5,000 researchers per million people. I want to contribute to reinforcing the S&T sector of the country to provide accessible and holistic healthcare for the least, the last, and the lost; the marginalized sector; and those in the far-flung communities.

It is of my utmost gratitude that I became a COED scholar and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. To end, I dedicate my scholarship to the people who I will serve in the future and to the nation that we will meaningfully build.”

Congratulations Jericho and we wish you all the best for your future!

One of COED’s graduate this 2026 is Trixia Policarpio. She graduated the University of the Philippines, with a degree in Bachelor of Arts, Creative Writing. She graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude. She wrote to the COED email and said the following:

“I started my first year of college during the pandemic, when almost everything had suddenly shifted online. It was a difficult adjustment for many students, but for my family, one of the biggest challenges was not being financially prepared for the gadgets and resources needed for online learning. I constantly worried about whether I could keep up with my classes when my internet connection could barely do the same. On top of that, building friendships and finding a sense of community were limited to screens and virtual interactions. Looking back, my freshman year became one of the hardest years of my college life, when it was supposed to be filled with excitement, hope, and new beginnings.

But COED played a huge role in helping me hold on to my plans and dreams. At the time, I didn’t know whether they’re accepting any applications, but I simply took a chance. They were responsive and willing to review it, and that small opportunity eventually made a lasting difference in my college journey.

As I became more familiar with the COED family, I realized how different they were from many scholarship programs. They make an effort to connect with their scholars personally, meeting us in the Philippines and occasionally organizing dinners and gatherings. The way I see it, COED sees its scholars as people more than just random students whose grades need to be monitored.

A year later, I made a significant decision to transfer from UP Baguio to a course I felt more passionate about and to a campus that would be more convenient for my family. I was initially worried that this decision might affect my scholarship, especially because transferring meant facing possible delays in my academic timeline. But I received nothing but support from COED. From my first semester to my final year in college, I have been fortunate to be supported by an organization that genuinely cares about its students and their individual journeys.

I really hope COED continues its work for many years to come. There are countless students carrying big dreams despite difficult circumstances, and sometimes all it takes is one spark of hope to keep those dreams alive.”

We are very proud of you, Trixia!
