🚲 Know Before You Ride: California E-Bike Laws 🚲
Whether you're riding to school, work, or just around town, knowing the rules helps keep everyone safe.
Here are a few important reminders:
âś… Know your e-bike class
• Class 1: Pedal assist only, up to 20 mph
• Class 2: Throttle-assisted, up to 20 mph
• Class 3: Pedal assist only, up to 28 mph
🚵‍♂️ Helmets are required for:
• All riders under 18
• Anyone operating a Class 3 e-bike
⚠️ Sidewalk Riding in Woodland
California does not prohibit sidewalk riding, but local laws apply.
In Woodland, riding a bicycle or e-bike on sidewalks is prohibited in the Central Traffic District. In areas where sidewalk riding is allowed, riders must always yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal before passing.
⚡ A legal e-bike has a motor of 750 watts or less. Modifying an e-bike beyond legal limits may reclassify it as a motorcycle and subject it to different laws.
🏍️ E-motos are not e-bikes. Electric motorcycles are prohibited from operating on public roadways and bike lanes under California's e-bike regulations.
Help keep our streets, sidewalks, and trails safe by knowing the law and riding responsibly.
