We join people and organizations around the world in raising awareness about the importance of eye care and the life-changing impact of donation.

An estimated 12 million people worldwide live with corneal blindness that could be treated with a cornea transplant. In 2025, U.S. eye banks reported 143,081 eye tissue recoveries from 72,143 donors.

Behind every number is someone who chose to give the gift of sight.

This Healthy Lung Month, we’re celebrating the gift of breath and the lives changed by organ donation.

Twelve years ago, LeeAnn received a double-lung transplant and a second chance at life. Today, she’s celebrating 12 extra years of memories and simply being able to breathe. 💙💚

So far this year, 296 people in California have received a lung transplant, while 88 are still waiting.

Behind every number is a person with a story and more life they hope to live.

One kidney donation doesn’t always end with one transplant.

When a living donor isn’t a match for the person they want to help, they can still give: by donating to a stranger they are compatible with. That stranger’s own mismatched donor then does the same for someone else, and the chain continues. According to the National Kidney Registry, a single chain like this can lead to anywhere from 2 to 30 transplants, all set off by one person’s decision to say yes.

Right now, 455 children age 17 and under are on California’s transplant waiting list, including 110 children 5 years old and under. Behind every one of those numbers is a family hoping today is the day a match is found.

Not all organ donation looks the same, and the liver is one of the most remarkable examples why.

A liver transplant replaces a liver that’s failing or severely damaged with a healthy one from a donor. It may be needed for advanced liver disease, liver failure, or certain liver cancers, when the liver can no longer keep up with what the body needs.

Here’s what makes it unique: the liver is one of the only organs that can regenerate. That means a living person can safely donate part of their liver, and over time, both the donor’s and recipient’s livers can grow back to full size.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we express our deepest gratitude to the Hispanic and Latino communities across California for the strength, compassion, culture, and generosity they bring to our state every day.

Organ, eye, and tissue donation is a powerful way to give hope and save lives and spreading awareness can truly make a difference.

Today 9,844 Latinos/Hispanics are currently on the transplant waiting list here in California. As a community let us lean together to provide support and continue to educate about the true impact of donation. Behind every transplant is a person who receives the second chance at life. Together we can inspire hope and support healthier futures for our communities.
