Miyamoto Relief

Miyamoto Relief We apply engineering expertise to at-risk communities around the world.

Miyamoto Global Disaster Relief (Miyamoto Relief) is 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides disaster mitigation response, relief and reconstruction services following a natural disaster. We are the only nonprofit structural engineering organization in the world that provides expertise at the critical phases of disaster. Miyamoto Relief works with national governments, the United Nations, an

d nongovernment organizations (NGOs) to strategize and implement disaster mitigation programs. Having responded to more than 100 earthquakes and hurricanes, our personnel provide crucial post-disaster activities, including structural safety assessment, damage data collection, debris management, human capacity building, assistance establishing building code technical platforms, and relief material logistics. To help prevent further structural failures, we train local engineers and contractors in earthquake resistance engineering practices.

On September 1, a powerful 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan. The death toll has reached nearly 900, with thousands more injured. Homes, schools, and entire villages in mountainous regions like Kunar and Nangarhar have collapsed.

Access remains limited, and humanitarian needs are growing. This disaster highlights the urgent need for seismically resilient infrastructure, especially in regions vulnerable to repeated shocks.

Miyamoto Relief focuses on disaster response and building systems that protect lives. We are following developments and preparing to share ways to help.

In 2021, a massive earthquake struck southern Haiti. Over 1,200 schools were reduced to rubble. More than 340,000 children lost their classrooms. Acting fast, we partnered with local builders and engineers to rebuild earthquake-resilient schools in the hardest-hit regions. Today, children are learning in safe, structurally sound buildings designed to withstand future quakes. Education is a priority, that's why we choose schools. Children deserve more than temporary tents; they deserve a future where disaster doesn’t mean despair.

Natural hazards are unavoidable.
Buildings collapsing are not.

Miyamoto Relief is a nonprofit organization that offers expert engineering services targeted at communities in need, aiding in earthquake and conflict recovery. While our partners concentrate on delivering vital aid like food, water, and medical supplies, we work closely with them to ensure the shelters and structures we build together offer a safe foundation for rebuilding.

On International Disaster Risk Reduction Day, we would like to shout out UNTAR and Cal Poly students who collaborated on the 2024 SESH Program with USAID KUAT in Jakarta! The team conducted tier-one building assessments of local schools and implemented safety measures like laminating corridor glass and anchoring cabinets, demonstrating a hands-on approach to implementing practical safety improvements.

👷‍♀️➡️We are committed to continuing to work on reducing disaster risks, aligning with global efforts to create safer educational environments. This program demonstrates how engineering can create safer learning environments and empower youth, fostering resilience with a smile.

Every child deserves a safe place to learn. Miyamoto Relief is dedicated to preventing tragic school collapses during earthquakes. Shockingly, school structures are dis-proportionally affected by earthquakes.

Through innovative engineering and improved building practices, we're working to protect our most precious resource—our children.

In the aftermath of the recent war on Gaza, over 1.2 million people are now facing homelessness due to the extensive damage to more than 110,000 buildings, predominantly homes. Our assessments indicate that about half of these structures have moderate damage and can be repaired within 2 to 6 months.

These are our findings:

✔️Approximately 50% of the damaged buildings are repairable in the short term, which could provide quicker relief to those affected.

✔️With a lack of adequate facilities in temporary shelters, many residents have already started repairs to make their living conditions safer and more comfortable.

✔️Our team of local engineers is dedicated to assisting in these repairs, ensuring that all reconstruction efforts meet safety standards and building codes.

Your donation can help recovery and rebuilding efforts in Gaza, and any amount is crucial. It supports the purchase of building materials and funds expert engineering guidance, helping people return to their homes safely and swiftly.

Together, we can help rebuild resilient and secure communities. Now. https://miy.to/donate
