CDTs Robert Tresville (left) & Clarence Davenport, the 7th & 6th African American graduates of the Long Gray Line. Both were Class of January 1943. This photo is 1941 or 1942 near today’s Mahan Hall. Tresville became a pilot, a Tuskegee Airman, commanded the 100th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, flew over 20 combat missions, & went MIA in June 1944 while flying a P-47D. Colonel Davenport had a long career which included commanding the 32nd AADCOM & earning a master’s in bioradiology from Cal Berkeley. I believe both were silenced by the Corps & had to live alone. Nobody shook Davenport’s hand at Plebe Recognition according to an obituary. All of that makes this casual, happy snapshot even more extraordinary. I don’t think this has ever been published. Created for Black West Point women, this experience offers space to step away from the demands of daily life and into an environment that is intentional, restorative, and rooted in care.

Over three days, we move through a guided journey — beginning with remembering our lineage and reclaiming our ancestral connections, creating space to bloom through practices of rest and resilience, and drawing on the power of community to step into the fullness of our voice.

There will be time for stillness and solitude, as well as opportunities to gather, reflect, and engage in ways that feel both grounding and expansive.

Alma Cooper .cooper continues to redefine what it means to lead with purpose, grace, and excellence. From the legacy of United States Military Academy to the global stage of a TED Talk, she is showing us that our voices matter in every room we step into.

To stand on that stage at Stanford University while pursuing her master’s degree is a reminder that growth never stops and that we can walk in multiple callings at once.
This is what representation looks like. This is what breaking barriers looks like. And this is what happens when preparation meets purpose.
