Chartered on April 26, 1986, Clay County Alumnae Chapter was the second Alumnae chapter chartered in Northeast Mississippi. Prior to this time, most Deltas in the area were members of the Mississippi Golden Triangle Alumnae, composed of Deltas from Clay, Lowndes, and Oktibbeha counties. *Eight of the members were from Clay County and, after much discussion and evaluation, they concluded: (1) that

Clay County offered many opportunities for public and community service; (2) that the funds raised for scholarships, projects, etc. (supported by friends and relatives in Clay County) should remain in Clay County; (3) that they had the strength, determination, and unity perquisite for a successful chapter. **Four additional Deltas joined the original eight to form the twelve Charter Members. Held at Third Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, West Point, Mississippi, the chartering ceremony was conducted by Southern Regional Director, Soror Verdell Bellamy. Soror Bellamy stressed the importance of public service and challenged the new chapter members to continue the legacy of the Founders. Later the twelve charter membership increased when Sorors Martha Anderson, Evelyn Bell, and Bettye Swift joined Clay County Alumnae. Johnson

Juneteenth Challenge Spotlight! ✊🏾❤️💚🖤

Today, Soror Carolyn Poston participated in our Juneteenth Challenge by supporting The Licking!

Known for its bold Southern flavors, fresh seafood, and homestyle comfort food, The Licking has become a popular destination for dishes like fried lobster, turkey wings, and other Southern favorites. Co-owned by DJ Khaled and Elric 'E-Class' Prince, the restaurant continues to make an impact in the community through business and culture.

Our support extends beyond the Clay County area because supporting Black-owned businesses strengthens communities everywhere. Every purchase helps create opportunities, build wealth, and preserve legacies.

This Juneteenth weekend, make a difference. Support a Black-owned business, share their story, and encourage others to do the same.

Who are you supporting this weekend? Drop their name in the comments!

❤️🖤💚 Juneteenth Week of Reflection, Resistance, and Rejoicing – Day 5 Challenge❤️🖤💚

Saturday's Challenge: Support a Black-Owned Business & Remember Why We Vote

As we continue our Juneteenth observance, today's challenge reminds us that economic empowerment and civic engagement are two of the most powerful ways we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us.

The right to vote was hard fought and hard won. Generations of Black Americans faced barriers, intimidation, and injustice while fighting for equal access to the ballot box. Their courage reminds us that voting is more than a right—it's a responsibility. Every election gives us an opportunity to have a voice in decisions that impact our families, communities, schools, businesses, and future generations.

At the same time, supporting Black-owned businesses helps strengthen our communities economically. When we intentionally support Black entrepreneurs, we help create jobs, build wealth, encourage innovation, and preserve legacies that can be passed down for generations.

Supporting Black-owned businesses isn't just a transaction—it's a transformation. Every dollar spent in our community circulates strength, stability, and sustainability. We rise when we invest in each other.

Today, we encourage everyone to:
✅ Support a Black-owned business by making a purchase, leaving a review, sharing a social media post, or recommending them to a friend.

✅ Reflect on the importance of voting and civic engagement. Consider how your vote can help shape positive change in your community.

Juneteenth is not only a celebration of freedom—it is a call to action. By supporting Black businesses and exercising our right to vote, we honor the legacy of those who fought for opportunities many of us enjoy today.

What is your favorite Black-owned business that others should support?

Why is voting important to you and your family?

Day 4 Challenge: Read a Book, Poem, or Speech by a Black Author

As we continue our Juneteenth journey of reflection and learning, today's challenge encourages us to engage with the words and wisdom of Black authors, poets, and thought leaders whose voices have helped shape our nation's history and future.

Yesterday, we reflect on the inspiring words of Amanda Gorman, an award-winning poet, activist, and the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history. Through her poetry, Gorman challenges us to confront our past, embrace hope, and work toward a more just and equitable future.

Her acclaimed poem, The Hill We Climb, captivated millions when she delivered it at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration. The poem is a powerful reminder that democracy, justice, and progress require courage, perseverance, and active participation from every generation.

As we honor Juneteenth and remember the long journey toward freedom and equality, these words remind us why history matters: We've seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it, Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy. And this effort very nearly succeeded. But while democracy can be periodically delayed, It can never be permanently defeated. In this truth, in this faith, we trust. For while we have our eyes on the future, history has its eyes on us.”

Let us not forget our history if we are to make progress for the future!

❤️🖤💚 Juneteenth Week of Reflection, Resistance, and Rejoicing ❤️🖤💚

As part of Day 3: Engage in Acts of Service, Soror Carolyn Poston demonstrated the true spirit of service by supporting the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) through a charitable donation.

This year's challenge reminds us that freedom isn't just about rights—it's about resources. When we support Black-led organizations, we invest in stronger families, healthier communities, educational opportunities, economic empowerment, and social justice.

In a message of appreciation, Faridah Burnett, Donor Relations Manager for NCNW, thanked Soror Carolyn for partnering with the organization and helping to uplift women of African descent, their families, and their communities. Through the generosity of supporters like Carolyn, NCNW can continue its important work in the areas of health, education, economic justice, and social justice.

✨ Service isn't a moment—it's a movement.

Thank you, Soror Carolyn Poston, for accepting the Day 3 Challenge and living our mission through meaningful action. Your commitment to giving back is making a difference and helping to create opportunities for generations to come.

What Black-led organization, community program, or cause are you passionate about supporting?

How do you give back through service, donations, mentoring, or volunteerism?

Share in the comments and inspire others to turn purpose into action.
