🐸💚 Florida Tree Frogs vs. Toxic Toads — Know the Difference!

Not every little hopper in your yard is dangerous! 🌿 Florida tree frogs are native, beneficial, and help control insects naturally. They are an important part of our ecosystem and are generally harmless to pets.

⚠️ Cane (Bufo) toads, however, are invasive and highly toxic to dogs and cats. Even mouthing or licking one can become a medical emergency.

✅ Tree frogs = native friends 🐸
❌ Cane toads = dangerous invaders ☠️

Learning to tell them apart can help protect both our pets and Florida’s wildlife. ❤️

If your pet comes into contact with a toad and starts drooling, pawing at the mouth, vomiting, or acting abnormal, rinse their mouth with water and seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

💙 Bluey’s Eye Specialist Update 💙

Today we got some answers.

Bluey has congenital blindness, which means he was born blind. At only a year and a half old, he’s already overcome more than most dogs ever will.

Today we learned that Bluey is truly 100% blind. Many times we wondered if he could see a little because of how incredibly well he gets around. We’ve watched him chase lizards, avoid obstacles, and navigate new environments so well that we questioned if there was some vision there after all.

But there isn’t.

Bluey is simply that smart.

Heelers are known for being one of the most intelligent breeds, and Bluey’s other senses are incredibly heightened. He listens, smells, feels changes in air movement, memorizes his surroundings, and learns routines incredibly fast.

Most people who meet him have no idea he’s blind.

That’s because Bluey is a happy, active, playful dog who loves life. He runs, explores, swims, cuddles, and enjoys every day just like any other young dog.

For whoever is lucky enough to adopt him, patience will be important in the beginning. Give him time to learn his surroundings and build confidence. Once he does, you’ll be amazed at what he’s capable of.

What you’ll get in return is a loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be close to his people.

A huge thank you to Animal Eye Specialty Clinic for taking such amazing care of Bluey today. They have always been wonderful to our rescue and the animals we serve, and we are incredibly grateful for their compassion and expertise.

He only knows he’s still waiting for someone to choose him. 💙🐾

🚗💙 On our way to the eye specialist with Bluey.

I hate having to make posts like this, but the reality is that rescue doesn’t stop just because donations do.

Bluey has been through so much already. He lost his family, he’s currently going through heartworm treatment, and now we’re continuing to figure out exactly what’s going on with his vision and what we can do to help him.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it — donations have pretty much come to a standstill. I know everyone is struggling right now, and trust me, we understand. But the animals still need us. The vet bills still come. The medications, diagnostics, and appointments don’t stop.
