Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches Serving Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties with services for blind Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties.

Founded in 1946, the Lighthouse is a private, non-profit agency providing direct education and rehabilitation services to people who are blind or visually impaired in Palm Beach, Martin, St. We serve thousands of individuals of all ages: children and young adults, people of working age and our area’s fastest growing population with age-related vision loss. We also provide services to family members and caregivers of those who are blind. We provide consultation and education to businesses, agencies, institutions and organizations in the community who employ or interact with persons who are blind or visually impaired. With the exception of low vision services, no fees are charged, and services are funded almost entirely by charitable support. The Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches is fully accredited by the National Accreditation Council for the Blind and Low Vision (NAC), and is also a member of the Florida Association of Agencies Serving the Blind (FAASB). The Lighthouse is partnered with Gulfstream Goodwill Industries and funding is partially provided by the State of Florida Division of Blind Services.

Celebrate 80 years of impact with Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches, Treasure Coast, and Okeechobee! 🎉

Join us for our 80th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, December 3, 2026, at The Pelican Club in Jupiter as we honor eight decades of fostering independence and helping people with vision loss reach their full potential.

Local businesses and community partners are invited to participate through customized partnership packages and gala underwriting opportunities, with options for brand visibility, employee inclusion workshops, accessibility services, and exclusive event experiences.

Yesterday, Lighthouse’s Tekesha Saffold was recognized by Commissioner Bobby Powell during the Palm Beach County Commission meeting as part of a proclamation recognizing the Palm Beach Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and Blind Equality Achievement Month.

We had a fantastic time coming together on Friday, October 2, for a morning filled with festive fun, great company, white cane awareness trivia, door prizes, and plenty of Western spirit! From cowboy hats and boots to flannel and fall colors, everyone brought their own flair to the celebration. A special highlight was hearing from our guest speaker, Robert Goodman, MSW, who shared his inspiring book, A Life of Self-Advocacy, along with his personal experiences with self-advocacy as a visually impaired person. Thank you to everyone who joined us, celebrated with us, and helped make the event such a memorable morning!

Join us Tuesday, October 6 at 9:00 AM as Commissioner Gregg Weiss presents the Lighthouse with a proclamation recognizing White Cane Safety Awareness Month at the Palm Beach County Government Center.

The proclamation will take place in front of the Palm Tran bus wrapped in celebration of Lighthouse’s 80th Anniversary!

The white cane represents freedom, confidence, safety, and independence. This October, we’re proud to share the message:
