Take Stock in Children Palm Beach County Three Programs, One Mission: Take Stock in Children PBC & TradeUp unite as College for Kids, Inc.

Together, we build a seamless 6th–12th grade, postsecondary pathway with scholarships, college tours & trade experiences for underserved Palm Beach students. Since its inception in 1995, Take Stock in Children has positively impacted the lives of over 18,000 children statewide throughout 67 counties. Over 7,500 mentors have volunteered with our program and in Palm Beach County alone we have awarded over $8 Million in scholarship funds. TSIC Palm Beach is proud to have graduated over 1,200 children considered ‘high-risk’ of drop-out, and currently has over 300 students enrolled and on track for success. Clearly addressing the high school drop-out crisis, and college attainment, Take Stock in Children continues to report an unparalleled high school graduation rate of 92% and a college enrollment rate of 81%. Students are identified in middle and high school and must sign a contract pledging to remain drug and crime free, meet with their mentor weekly and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.3 or greater. Students fulfilling their contractual obligations receive a full tuition scholarship upon high school graduation. If you would like to become a mentor, please email us at [email protected].

4.7 GPA and a spot at Palm Beach State College. Alisha is building her future in healthcare. 🩺

Alisha is a senior at Lake Worth High School and a scholarship recipient through Take Stock and the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea. She was admitted early to Palm Beach State College and has taken classes there since her sophomore year.

Alisha loves healthcare and advocacy. She’s in the Biomedical Academy and holds certifications in EKG technology, medical assisting, and electronic health records. Her hard work shows: she’s been on the Principal’s Honor Roll since 2023!

Outside of school, Alisha teaches her community why blood donation matters with the OneBlood club and serves as secretary with the American Red Cross.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, William leads a room full of young engineers. 🤖

William is a Take Stock scholarship recipient and Class of 2027 from Pahokee Middle Senior High. He founded a robotics team at his old elementary school, where he now leads 15 students.

He is #1 in his class of 126, scored a 1390 on the SAT, and has served 439 community hours. He sells paletas at his church to help fundraise, and he is dedicated to his community. Besides his academics, he’s learning German!

Student Spotlight: Meet Roodnel, an artist in the making! 🎨

Roodnel is a student at Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation and a proud student of our College for Kids program. Through the program, he has a guaranteed college scholarship waiting for him, giving him the opportunity to keep pursuing his dreams after high school.

We’re incredibly proud of Roodnel and all that he’s working toward. His future is bright, and we’re excited to be part of his journey!

A new group of students and the beginning of their journey with College for Kids! 💙

At our New Student Orientation at Palm Beach State College, our newest students learned what it takes to be successful in the program and keep their scholarships from maintaining their grades and meeting with their mentors to taking advantage of resources, career days, and opportunities along the way.

After officially receiving their certificates and being welcomed into the program, each student signed our commitment board, promising to give it their all through graduation.

It’s a commitment to College for Kids, but even more importantly, a commitment to themselves and the future they’re working toward!

Student Spotlight: Building a Future in Healthcare!

Natasha’s journey started in high school with her mentor, Maria, who supported her academically while also helping her think about her career and future.

After graduation, Natasha continued working toward her goal of becoming a nurse. With support from TRIO SSS and the First Generation Program, along with financial support from Take Stock Palm Beach, she earned her Associate of Arts degree in Nursing at Palm Beach State College without the added financial stress.

With her degree completed, Natasha was ready for her next step: nursing school. She applied to the nursing program at the University of North Florida but was initially waitlisted.

Then came a full-circle moment. Natasha attended a Take Stock Palm Beach alumni reunion and campus tour at the University of North Florida, where Ms. Kirby encouraged her to reapply to the program.

She took her advice, applied again... and was accepted! 🎉

Sometimes, having a mentor in your corner can be the encouragement you need to keep going, even when the path doesn’t go exactly as planned.
