Fern House We aim to take indigent, chronic drug and alcohol abusers off the streets and help them reintegrate into society. HOW IS FERN HOUSE DIFFERENT?

We take damaged lives and make them whole, reuniting broken families and guiding our clients toward a life of purpose. An alcohol or drug treatment program typically lasts a set number of days. After that, the addict is left alone in their recovery, with a good chance that they’ll return to an unsafe, unsupportive living situation. All the hard work they did to get sober is gone. The cycle starts all over again. Fern House breaks that cycle by teaching men how to live without drugs or alcohol. We encourage them to stay with us until they are ready to stand on their own two feet, no matter how long that might take. We teach them how to cope without the crutches of drugs and alcohol. We help them reintegrate into society. Our Goals:

Provide our clients with a program of recovery that gives them the tools which will enable them to live sober lives as productive members of our community. Consequently, these men, formerly social and economic burdens to our society, become responsible, tax-paying citizens. Maintain a structured and disciplined environment that teaches our clients personal accountability and responsibility, thus helping him to achieve his restorative potential. Help our residents to clean up the wreckage of their past and reunite with their families. Teach our clients the importance of remaining active in their own recovery by involving them in programs that help others and give back to the community.

Today is , the slogan reminds us to "act locally on a global day." Awareness is important, but action creates change.
Here are 3 ways you can support your local community today:

1. 🧦 Donate Wisely: Reach out to a local shelter or halfway house to ask what specific items they need right now (new socks, toiletries, and blankets are always in high demand).
2. 🕒 Volunteer Your Time: Offer your professional skills, assist at a local soup kitchen, or support grassroots outreach teams.
3. 📢 Advocate: Use your voice to contact municipal or federal representatives and ask them to prioritize sustainable, affordable housing strategies.

Every small action helps alleviate suffering and builds community capacity. How are you showing up today?

We missed the reality and the beauty of the forest because we were diverted by the ugliness of some of its trees.
— Alcoholics Anonymous

Reflection question
What have I ruled out entirely because of the specific people who represented it to me?
Reflection
The trees are real. The book is not asking you to pretend that religious people have never done harm, and if the ugliness you saw was aimed at you, it does not stop being ugly because someone offers a metaphor.
What is being suggested is only that the failures of the people carrying an idea are not automatically an argument against the idea. That is a distinction most people apply easily to politics and medicine and almost never to this, usually for reasons that have a name and an address.

Reflection question
If worry took the day off, what would I do with the room it leaves?
Reflection
Notice the order of operations: first the principles go to work, then the fear leaves. Serenity is a byproduct, not a project. You cannot decide to stop worrying, but you can do the things that leave worry unemployed. Every hour spent on your own honesty, your own amends, your own actual responsibilities is an hour that fear used to have booked. The wonderful thing is not a mood that descends from nowhere. It is the slow discovery that the disaster committee in your head has less and less material to meet about.

We have not done a Therapy Garden update in a while because the summer has not been nice to the novice gardener. We are however pleasantly surprised by the key lime tree putting out blossoms, we didnt expect any of the baby citrus trees to produce this year.

The long planned and slowly put together banana circle has been planted. The wild flower beds have sprouted and are trying to get going. New tomato, pepper and melon plants being transplanted in this week. More pictures of all that to come soon.

Go touch plants! Its good for them, its good for you, and its good for your mental health.
