We want to clear up any confusion there may be on our position.

Our position regarding the “happy beach dancing” event:

After receiving concerned reports, Loggerhead Marinelife Center met with Jupiter Police Department, other local and state agencies, and the beach event organizers to express concerns and share expertise on how the event may be impacting nesting sea turtles. We are not a regulatory agency; however, we wanted to provide input as a sea turtle and marine conservation organization. Unfortunately, a mutually agreed upon compromise was not reached at this meeting. While organizers plan to reduce lights, this does not address our overall concerns. We remain committed to working with stakeholders, including the Town of Jupiter, to identify additional measures that better protect nesting sea turtles and their habitat.

🏖️ The beach parties will continue... with some adjustments.

The Town of Jupiter convened Wednesday afternoon at the police department, bringing together local, county and state stakeholders along with representatives from Loggerhead Marinelife Center to address concerns about weekend beach dance parties held where sea turtles nest.

The adjustments center on reducing the amount of lighting used during the events to avoid disturbing nesting sea turtles.
